man, there are SO many steelbooks i want. most of them are oop and can only be had for a premium. but right now, i really can't even afford the regular priced ones....let alone those priced at 3 or 4 times that.

but one day i'll catch up.....i hope....lol.

I recently read Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover, which is a detailed instruction book on what you should and shouldn't do with your money, and in the end, your money works for you.

I want to try this. My wife and I each have very good jobs and incomes, yet we pay so much each month to bills and barely staying afloat. So, following Dave's plan, all of this will be rectified.

Step 1 - Set aside $1,000 for a starter emergency fund.
Step 2 - List all your debts from smallest to largest. Snowball payments and eliminate all of this debt (mortgage is fine).
Step 3 - Finish emergency fund. This should be 3-6 months of your total expenses.
Step 4- Save for retirement. 15% of income should be invested.
Step 5 - Save for yours/your kids' college tuition.
Step 6 - Pay off mortgage
Step 7 - Build wealth - Invest, Have Fun, and Give Back.



Step 1 will be challenge itself just getting to 1K and setting it aside, but I'm ready.

i'm hoping by FINALLY getting into a 401k i can start saving for my retirement. but i'd like to start putting some aside in a savings account, as well. what's good is that once i get the savings account open, i can have money taken directly from paycheck (which is on direct deposit) and put directly into the savings account. that way, i never have to worry about if the money will ever be put in there, or not. and i can specify how much i want put in there from each check ($ amount, not %).

my house and vehicle are paid for, so at least i don't have those payments to worry about.

also, i'm not married and don't have any kids, so everything i save is mine and i don't have to worry about trying to support anyone else but me. my mom lives with me, so i do worry about her, but currently, she actually makes more than i do with her small pension and social security each month. but i'm hoping that changes within the next year. the first time i'm available to go full time at work, i'm going to apply.
