Probably a bit early to ask (the release date is Tuesday 12th July), but has anyone who has pre-ordered Shout! Factory's Region 1 DVD release of The Defenders: Season One with Amazon.com had their copy shipped yet?

No, I didn't pre-order it, and so unfortunately can't help you. Sorry.

But relatedly, I did just become aware of this release, and submitted an entry for the show here: https://www.blu-ray.com/The-Defenders/601523/ and also submitted an entry for the Season 1 DVD that is pending (and hopefully will be approved any day). For people who track their collections at this site then I hope that this is helpful, and ask that please no one try to submit another entry for this Season set, thanks.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully there will be plenty of interest in the original Defenders TV series on here, like there has been with the Spenser: For Hire thread.

You're welcome, I'm just sorry I couldn't be of help, but hopefully someone else will soon.

I agree though, hopefully people will appreciate this set too. There may not have been as much awareness of it's release (I don't know), but if that's the case then I'm sure your thread will help, and once that DVD entry in the database gets approved then some more people may see it from that as well.

I remember the series fondly. I thought it might be released when the Belushi series first came out, but glad that it is now finally receiving its due (and with extras, no less!).

I plan to pick this up in the next couple of weeks once the various sales are over.

Hopefully we will see more series like this released in the future.

Any sign of the second season of The Defenders being released by Shout?

Even if the response might be disappointing, it could still be worth asking Shout if they have any plans to revisit any of the series they didn't complete their DVD releases of. The Defenders didn't even get past the starting block, with just the first season released.

Yes, they managed to complete several series. It was just a few which weren't completed (possibly due to poor sales). The series I can remember off the top of my head:

Death Valley Days
The Defenders
Marcus Welby, M.D.
Police Story
The Rookies (including the S.W.A.T. pilot episode).

Could be now, that Shout have lost the licenses (from Universal and Sony for example) to release further seasons now.
