I open mine. Sealed steelbooks are missed opportunity. Their is some wonderful art work that is missed by not taking the slip covers off as well as the interior art not to mention any extras.
Why have a collection if you are not able to enjoy them as well is how them off. |

If you keep them sealed, don't you then have to have a duplicate copy of the movie to watch? Why waste the money and shelf space? Like anything, as long as you treat them well, and handle them carefully, there's no reason Steels won't last. This seems daft to me.
Also, what looks better on your shelf: A row of your favorite films, in cool metal cases, free of shrink wrap and stickers, like your own curated library; or a bunch of still-wrapped packages, that looks like a shelf at Best Buy? |

Decided to open up premiums and keep them in sealed protective cases. The WEA Steelbooks are excellent to see up close and the collectibles artbooks and photos as well.

I never buy anything to keep it sealed, because I want to see them and be able to enjoy what I buy. Also don’t ever think I will sell things so I don’t pay much focus to maximize value. But what I do is that I usually don’t open things until I’m going to see the movie (with a few exceptions if it’s to check out items that came with it or something). So since many of the movies I’ve either seen or will sit on the shelf a long time before I finally get around to see it, many of my Blus are sealed, both Steelbook and regular releases.

I don’t have many, but I open the ones I have. Mainly because it makes no sense to just buy it again just so you can keep your steelbook in the package.
Since they usually range around $40 these days for the 4K, not being able to open it is stupid. Just unbox it and watch it. Sure you can get rich selling these off of eBay for five times the price. But you buy these for a reason and the packaging is the only added supplement. |
