Per Wikipedia, it went from Joseph Kahn's hands to Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Cube), but now it's not attached to anybody. Kahn must have been the music video director. I would have welcomed Natali though.

Sounds like it's been in development hell since forever, so I wouldn't hold my breath anyway.

I like The Matrix too and all, but it really can't take credit for that crazy cool theory. That said, it is a stimulating presentation of ideas more-or-less attributed to Descartes.

It's official. WB is in the business of ruining franchises.

A reboot without the Wachowskis? This isn't what I wanted.

I hate you, WB.
This. There is absolutely no damn reason whatsoever to REBOOT The Matrix. The only thing that needs to be improved are the Blu-ray releases. There is no way to do the first movie better. The special effects hold up very, very well. It's not like it's a low-budget thing from 1975 with dodgy stop-motion effects or some shit.

God damn it, studios. Stop ruining perfect things. Do a sequel or prequel and do it well, if you absolutely have to. And of course you have to, because new properties are risky...

So has "it is" apparently. What you're looking for is "its".

But yes, everything is a reboot now these days, I guess. Doesn't matter if it's a sequel, prequel or whatever.

Makes me want to re-evaluate the trilogy in that context.
My own crazy theory - and it works - is that
[Show spoiler]there are no humans. The "real world" is just a secondary Matrix, a shunt program to keep the system from collapsing. What we saw wasn't a war between humans and computers, it was a war between factions of A.I. programs. Crazy idea, but it actually explains a lot of the problems people had with the sequels, like the stereotypical rave scene (that's how the A.I.'s thought we would act), or Morpheus kinda vanishing from the narrative (because his program was complete - he found "the One" and returned him to the Source), or the whole idea of Smith (a program) being able to infect Bane (a "real" human in the "real" world).

There's even stuff in the original movie that supports this, like the scene at Neo's office when the FedEx guy delivers him the phone. He's not working, not goofing off, not playing a game on his desktop... he's sitting there, arms splayed out, literally doing nothing... because his program has nothing to do until that phone from Morpheus arrives.

Truth be told, I don't really care about The Matrix trilogy that much.

I'm just sick and tired of these cash-grabbing, godawful remakes/reboots of movies that aren't even 20 years old.

....at least wait a few decades before you ruin a beloved franchise.

The Matrix was rebooted in the last film, so this will probably start a trilogy that takes place in the new Matrix. It will star a new and young cast with Keanu Reeves in a cameo or supporting role.

"Beloved franchise" second and third matrix don't count.
