An Imgur album posted online today reveals what is reported to be a prequel to Life is Strange developed by Deck Nine Games.

GameKult found one of the screenshots on the server of Deck Nine Games’ official website before it was promptly removed. A user on the GameKult forums then alerted them to the Imgur album posted earlier, which includes the screenshot found on Deck Nine’s server in addition to others.

According to NeoGAF user J!NX, Deck Nine Games, which teased a narrative-driven title from a “leading AAA publisher” to be announced at E3 2017, has been working on a prequel to Life is Strange for a while. The game will reportedly let players explore the relationship between Chloe and Rachel.

Dontnod Entertainment, developer of the original Life is Strange, is also working on its own new entry in the series different from Deck Nine Games’ prequel. The studio has previously said its new Life is Strange project will not be announced at E3 2017.

Life is Strange lost a key actor due to SAG-AFTRA strike

The SAG-AFTRA voice-actor strike means that Ashly Burch will not reprise her role as Chloe in the second season of Life is Strange.

The existence of a second season of Life is Strange was announced by creator Dontnod Entertainment last month. However, an additional prequel season called Before the Storm was unveiled at the Xbox press conference this week.

What wasn't apparent in Before the Storm's brief appearance onstage at E3 was a change in one of the protagonists, Chloe, who was voiced in the first season of Life is Strange by Ashly Burch. Yesterday, Burch used Twitter to clarify that her role had to change due to a strike organised by the SAG-AFTRA union, which started in October last year.

The SAG-AFTRA strike has received a great deal of attention, but this is a rare occasion on which its impact will be obvious to the gaming audience. According to Burch, she was involved with Before the Storm as a consultant on Chloe's character, but her participation was limited due to the strike action.

The first season of Life is Strange was five episodes long, and attracted 3 million paying customers. Square Enix will publish the prequel season, but the IP's creator, Dontnod Entertainment, will not return as developer. The three prequel episodes that comprise Before the Storm will be made by the US studio Deck Nine Games.

Dontnod is currently working on the second full season of Life is Strange and the action RPG Vampyr, which is due for release in November this year.

Probably once all the episodes come out and they'll bundle it for PS4.

No, it's just Xbox One X enhanced. Launches in august for both consoles.

Absolutely stoked for this. Huge fan of the first game so getting one last chance to play a story with Chloe (and Max) sounds awesome. I'll end up double dipping again I guess. I see no physical version for order yet, but it'll probably come after the whole game is released.

I hope Before The Storm does something about the ending in the first game. I really didn't care for the fact that despite all these choices the game gives you and all the outcomes you're still stuck with two sad endings. That's honestly why I never finished it. Here's hoping the second game is better.

This one is a prequel. Not sure why it would affect the ending of the first game. I agree about the ending choices though.

I know it's a prequel, but Im still hoping. I know it's probably not going to change anything, but I really hated both of those endings lol.

Losing Ashly is probably a deal breaker for me. I am generally not a fan of prequels anyways

I'm glad the strike did not keep her from the Horizion DLC however.

I'm really hope the strike will be over soon cause some of the best voice actors are in the union. I just hope this strike gets resolved and doesn't go on forever.

Play the current game ASAP, if you enjoy it you will have a much better connection to the characters in the game and will likely appreciate the prequel a hell of a lot more.

Anyone watch the 20 minutes or so of footage around?

I'm trying to decide if I think this will be anywhere near the quality of the first game or not, and those 20 minutes are not assuring me I will.

Of course I rank Life is Strange as my favorite "choose-your-own-adventure" game ever, so it'll be tough to match.
