At first I assumed this was an April Fool's prank (a day late) but alas it seems not: https://www.oppodigital.com/farewell.aspx
I guess for us 3D fans, one big advantage was that Oppo gear allowed easy modification for multi-region releases. If you are on the fence about buying one maybe now is the time! I intend to pick one up primarily so I have a backup player for the 3DFA Region A releases. Last edited by petergee; 04-03-2018 at 12:26 AM. |

Guess the market for elite players peaked. Like with other consumer electronics products, these are not commodities and people like to keep what they have, not upgrade to keep the sales going.
It's a shame for one would think there would still be a profit to be made. |

This REALLY sucks- I always hoped Oppo would go into making displays as well, but guess that won't happen now.

Just told my brother. He uses the oppo Blu-ray for audio recordings on line. What he does is over my head but he said it allows him to create chapters seamlessly and other things with full uncompressed audio.
He might buy another one just to have a second. |

So just saw this post in the other thread, and I thought, perhaps we can ask, for a feature for Oppo to playback 3D MVC files over the network, as I understand the Oppo's don't do that. So I just made a request here, to request for 3D MVC playback perhaps in a MKV container over the network. I know the chances are low, but if a few of us here request maybe they will consider it.

I heard the news more than a month ago but did not look into it further. I figured their current products would still be made for some time. I looked this week, and the only etailer to have the 203 was newegg at double the $550 MSRP. Craigslist is my friend, and I picked one up today, with used, mint, with the region-free mod, for $590 shipped.
It was a software mod, and the seller is trying to find info on it, in case I need to contact the mod maker. The seller mentioned that future firmware upgrades may knock out the region-free mod. Is this true? |
