Default Dented steelbook? 3D printed bumpers might be the solution for you

Hide the damage under 3D printed "bumpers" that also work as a stand. It was designed with 3D printing limits in mind. Precise dimensions and preserved functionality of the steelbook were verified in real-world tests. You can use just the bottom "bumper stands" and leave the top bare or use the upper "bumpers" for both top and bottom. I recommend to stick the printed parts to the steelbook by using contact adhesive.

The top bumper is beyond ugly I’d rather see a dent than this hideous thing, the title of the thread made me wonder of an actual way to fix the steelbook. You can also hide a dent on the front or back if you store it in a cardboard box.

Well, he's not actually selling anything. Seems like he made a template for anyone to use with a 3D printer.

I'm not selling anything. If you do not own a 3D printer, have it printed by some nearby design studio (as I did myself). You can get the set for like 6 bucks and avoid cross-border postage.

I tried to fix dented steelbook by myself, but it made the problem even worse. There are no other solutions. If you put your dented steelbook into a box, you will see the dents just when you remove the steelbook from it. The best solution is to buy a new steelbook, but some of them are not available already and it does not make economic sense.

When you print some parts on 3D printer, you have to take some limits in account. Some more limits come in place when you use certain fillaments. I tried more variants including the rounded ones but this one worked best. And since nothing reminds me of my clumsiness that caused the dents, it makes me feel better.

It's definitely strange that someone who made a handful of posts in 2008 and has never posted since, suddenly finds his way to this thread, after 10 years of nothing, to give the Op a pat on the back. Maybe we're just too cynical.

Pretty sure those accounts are the same person...

Also, I'm not really sure how this helps with dented steelbooks. Most dents occur toward the center, not the top and bottom. Maybe someone can explain this to me better...

Also, "real-world tests" just sounds too infomercial-ly.

I can assure you these accounts are not identical. I'm also sure that I posted more comments (i.e. Vanilla Sky Blu-ray few years ago) and it somehow got lost.

Well, it helps in case it's dented on the top or bottom. I did not say "this will fix every damaged steelbook in the world". Nevertheless, I edited the thread title to be more clear.

You should be glad for "real-world tests". I could also wrote "přesnost rozměrů a zachování funkčnosti plechové krabičky jsem vlastnoručně ověřil". :-p

Seems a little excessive to do this.

Sure, a steelbook is a nice product, and it's best to take as much care as possible, but if itngets dented, it's time to either recycle it, or save for a replacement.

These bumpers don't really solve a potential pre-existing issue. They just hide it.

Plus, with these bumpers, you'd run out of space faster than you normally would with naked steelbooks.

I think of it more of a way to display steelbooks than to hide dents.

Just kidding. I do think they have some practical use as display stands, even though I'm not a huge collector of steelbooks. Nice work.

It’s almost as if they’re really supposed to be just stands and they happen to “conceal dents” that are on the top and bottom of it. Otherwise, these are not “dent covers” at all lmao.

The dents that I get are exactly where the covers wouldn’t be.

I am not in any way associated with the OP. I just never post anything. I took offense to the first guy's response and felt a more appropriate response was to be appreciative rather than mean.
