Battail’s right. And if you’re budget won’t stretch to a great rig, they start out at ~700.

This projector for instance is now 469.

https://www.avforums.com/review/benq...r-review.14293

add a screen for ~300-400

That setup for 3D will still exceed your experience of 3DTV, simply because of the image size.

Instead of, or in addition to the PSVR, keep in mind that you can still pick up a Playstation 3D display on eBay for $100 to $200. It's small (24") but can be a good backup or 2nd (or 3rd) setup. Or put it on your desk and use it as a second computer monitor. I bought an extra one a couple years ago and just packed it away in the closet in case of a 3D emergency! (Also pick up some extra glasses to go with it, if you do buy one.)

I bought a PlayStation VR as my contingency. And I had to use it for a while when my LG 3D TV broke. Luckily LG had a replacement panel and got it fixed. But I know this might be the last lap.

The PS VR is a decent backup, and it's worth considering.

You should tell Geek Squad you want the Sony Z9D tv. It is far superior to the QLED. The 3d is fantastic, it's active so your active Samsung glasses will work with it still. It supports HSR10 and Dolby Vision if you do upgrade to 4k blu rays.

Why not consider used? Since you're living in L.A., casually search out craigslist in the coming weeks for 2016 3-D OLED's and the like. Take your time, wait for the right model and the right price. And check it out carefully before you take the plunge.

You bought extended warranty so your best option is to accept the replacement TV. You should try to ask for the Sony, though.

That said, my option would be to see if you can get it fixed by a third party. Unfortunately, I think, that would null your warranty and the TV will probably work for another year then die again.

If the panel is not dead then it can be fixed. However, techs that work for Samsung or Best Buy would not try to deal with your TV as they never repair mainboards, they replace them and if there are no replacement parts to be ordered, then your TV is considered dead "to them". Third party techs would go as far as fixing your current mainboards.

May I ask how did it die? Clap sound? Does it even turn on? Red light blinking?

Default My 3D TV is dead - It was fun while it lasted

So after 7 years, my LG 3D TV has finally died. Sound but no picture. Such a pisser.

I looked online and saw a couple of possible ways to resurrect it but I'm not sure I'm even going to bother. Since this was the living room TV, I need to replace it sooner rather than later. It'll probably sit upstairs in a back room until I find the time to crack it open.

Really bummed. I loved that TV and the 3D picture.

Are you a gamer? You could buy a PS4 (250) and a PSVR headset (200) and you have a substitute player for your own use. You would then be good to go for another few years.

That is very sad, sorry mate. I haven't checked Ebay in a while, but sometimes they have decent used 3D tvs out there.

As a 3DTV owner, I've been keeping an eye out on viable 3D-capable replacements that can work in a living room setting. The only solution I've found are Ultra Short Throw projectors paired with Ambient Light Rejecting screens.

The Epson LS-500 is the one which most closely fits the criteria . It's not cheap, so price is the biggest drawback at the moment. It also won't be available until Q1 2020 at the earliest.

At more reasonable budgets, there really isn't anything (outside of buying a used).

Dreading the day my 3D TV goes. I've been watching 4K content and it looks amazing and I forget how good 3D can be. I then get the latest Marvel movie (the kings of 3D) and I'm utterly blown away all over again. My TV has slight screen burn-in but I refuse to get the panel replaced as I will lose the 3D capability.

But as I feared, no more Samsung 3D model TV's are available anymore. (Seriously, fork you Samsung) Best Buy has agreed to replace it with a 65 inch Q7 Series QLED TV, which I'm excited about... but GODDAMMIT ALL TO HELL, I'm going to miss 3D.

For a great many films my collection, 3D was my preferred choice for viewing and I'm bummed at not being able to watch them anymore in that format. Just a short quick list of some titles I'm already grieving the loss of: Cue "Taps"...

ANT-MAN
AVATAR
AVENGERS
BEAUTY & THE BEAST (Disney Animated)
BOLT
EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS
FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
GHOST IN THE SHELL
GRAVITY
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 1 & 2
HUGO
JUNGLE BOOK (Disney Live Action)
JURASSIC PARK
JURASSIC WORLD
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
THE MARTIAN
TANGLED
TITANIC

And a slew of others. Seriously, this is truly a QUANTUM DICK PUNCH for me. It feels like a family member has died.

Adding insult to injury, amazon UK just shipped my BLACK PANTHER 3D and I have to cancel my READY PLAYER ONE 3D pre-order. I REALLY REALLY wanted to watch those. (Insert expletive here)

Any other lovers of the 3D format out there that also had to suffer the devastating loss of their apparatus? Looking to commiserate with some fellow 3D philes if there are any left.

Grieving
Just get a $700 Optoma DLP projector that does 3D. It is all good man.

I don't understand why people think that when their 3-D tv dies, their 3-D world is over.

Puzzled why you would not consider a projector, as DLP 3D is the best there is anyway, and the immersion so, so much better. My 65" 3D TV is a feature I never use. Projection for 3D or nothing at all.
