Sorry for the slow answers.
Battle Creek Brawl looks like it has a lot of DNR. Very smeary look, but possibly a little better resolution than older releases.

And Armour of God is cropped just like the UK release.

Wheels on Meals is definitely an improvement though! Sharp and colourful but could really use a better encode.

Thanks. On another forum somebody posted that the AOG2 is the longer HK cut with new horrible dubbing, not the original with Jackie Chan himself dubbing. But this is good news for waiting other releases, at least it's the longer cut that has been restored.

Oh dear. Though what I have seen before on DVD, almost anything would be better. Maybe they (whoever it was) couldn't restore this movie better? I think I'll have to send the box back without opening it..

Yeah i'm not sure if this is an old or new transfer, but the old one definitely looks grainier.

The difference seems to come from aspect ratio change, the HK K&R original 1.85:1 and UK Mediumrare 1.78:1. The framing is also slightly different, the Mediumrare shows a little bit more on the top side.

I'm in the process of checking all out.

There seems to be an authoring problem with all of the discs, the DAR is botched on all videos.

This is how the movies are shown in my Potplayer software media player when the default setting of aspect ratio is set to "Default display AR (recommended)":

In order to show the movie properly, I need to change the setting to "Default original DAR". VLC plays the files ok with default settings. But something is wrong with the SAR/DAR in the videos.

Here's ffmpeg output for all:

    Stream #0:0(eng): Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p(tv), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1
DAR 16:9], SAR 9:16 DAR 1:1, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 1k tbn

And yes, all of them are MPEG2 encoded. And every movie is only ~20-22 GB size, that's including the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks.

Wheels on Meals doesn't look too bad, but still little hard to judge by the screenshots if it's real HD? Is this taken from the new 2k remastered print maybe?

The Fortune Star copyright screens at the end of the movies state "2010, 2017", except Battle Creek Brawl has only "2010", Armour of God has "2010, 2015", and Police Story 2 has "2010, 2018". (I haven't checked AOG2 yet)

So yes, I think that they are proper HD restorations, dunno about BCB, maybe it really was restored ages ago but FS sat on the title for this long?! And judging from the copyright year, AOG is probably the same master that was released in the UK by Mediumrare (I haven't compared, yet).

I think that when viewing the screencaps I post here, one should consider that the encoding is MPEG2 and the bitrate is not that high, and it seems that grain is very low (varies a bit), BCB being the poorest of them all with obvious DNR and soft picture, probably also because it seem to have been restored way before these other titles.

Nice that Wheels on Meals is true HD. Did you check if Wheels has the original English dub also?

Personally even though this boxset seems to suck on many levels, the good thing for me is that it has Norwegian subtitles. It's rare these days to be able to get old JC movies in HD with Norwegian subs at least.

Thanks for checking. What a bummer that is, I was hoping at least they used the original English dub to justify my purchase of it in addition to the movies having Norwegian subs. But now I really have to reconsider. Something tells me that it is Fortune Star that has played a trick on them on this one. Either they said the original Canto tracks are not available or they charge an insane price for those tracks. Since they sell the boxset for only about US$ 20, it might also be that they dont want to pay for the original tracks, as they won't make a profit on the cheap seling price. Or another theory, they are just plain ignorant distributor

And Armour of God 2 is "2010, 2018", so it is very new restoration! Can't wait Eureka releasing AOG box.
