I would love to see george direct a new film./ See what he can do when he is not surrounded by yes men. Real producers who tell him when something is not working. George is an artist that never goes away.

Not happening. George is happily retired, and any future Obi Wan stories will likely be told on Disney+.

There will be an Obi Wan movie starring Ewan McGregor. It just isn't happening any time soon, and certainly isn't directed by George Lucas. That guy was woefully misinformed.

The previous Obi-Wan movie thread was closed.

Although this was reported last year with GL doing a location scout and everything, the political motivation for Johnson to come out with that stuff at the moment makes its significance HIGHLY suspicious.

It's unlikely that the Belfast Telegraph were as interested in reporting the change in strategy announced by Iger earlier this year than they were eager to herald the possibility of Lucas bringing Star Wars to the six counties following his visit.

Take whatever Boris Johnson says with a pinch of salt.

I'd say the chances of George Lucas returning to Star Wars is highly slim given the reasons why he sold the franchise in the first place.

Still, if anyone is perfect for the Kenobi movie, it's Lucas.

For a variety of reasons, some of which were mentioned above by other users, and the main one being that it simply makes no sense, I doubt it is true.

If it were true, however, this thing would shoot right to the top of my most anticipated movies list.

Of all the characters, Obi Wan seem to be the least interesting to make a stand alone film about. The dude went into hiding for like the entire time between ROTS and ANH. What are they gonna do? Make the movie about his high school years? Why? Does anyone care?

Now, if they decide to do a live action Clone Wars movie with Obi and Ani both(MacGregorn and Christiansen) in the film and that timeline showed details of the clone war period between EP2 and EP3 then I might be interested. But that’s the only way. Otherwise.... what could they possibly tell us about Obi Wan that’s relevant and important in a stand alone film? Showing him sitting there in his tattoine bungalow doing nothing for 30 years? Did he have a love interest or something?

Nah, I don’t see the point here.

I imagine Johnson is just misinformed. But honestly I would love this, the new Star Wars movies suck but bringing back GL would at least inject some fun.

It's rather obvious that he's just repeating a Belfast Telegraph article from many months ago, before the announced postponement of ALL spin off movies. It's a squirrel to try and distract people in NI from the brexit fiasco at the moment.

There's a good reason why UK sites aren't making anything more out of it. Seems to be only non UK sites that have fallen for it.

As a British person myself, I am aware of who Boris Johnson is; a politician. Naturally, politicians are well known for giving false information, especially at a conference! This needs to be taken with a grain of salt the size of the Grand Canyon.

Having said that, it wouldn't hurt for Disney to hire Lucas to direct a spin-off. He is a director still, regardless of what he owns.
