My understanding is that the Obi Wan series happens 11 BBY, so that still gives plenty of time for them not to have been around each other. Vader never finishes the sentence, he doesn't say since when.

Edit: Now if they do end up fighting it does undercut the whole student/master speech later, I'll agree to that. It would also be little silly in my eyes since you know neither of them can die.

At what point does Obi discover Annakin is Vader? It’s possible they could fight each other without knowing each other’s identity? Maybe Obi chops his limbs of again.

The Obi-Wan series happens before Rebels (Obi-Wanis 11 BBY, Rebels is 0-5 BBY, it ends right before RO) so its actually possible to have Maul in it, even though again you know nobody can die if they fight.

While that is correct, it’s only that Maul was not in pursuit of Kenobi until they first met on Tatooine in Rebels. So their duel in Rebels would hold no wait if they have encouraged each other prior.

Well I didn't say it was a good idea, just that it was possible. Since this happens at roughly the same time as Solo I would agree it would be better to have him as a shadowy background character if he shows up at all

That may be the key to them fighting without actually facing off against each other. Vader himself may not dual with Obi-Wan, because he's too involved with overseeing the construction of the Death Star, but he may have to send the inquisitors instead.

Inquisitors would be cool, one issue with that is if Tatooine were to become their last known location it would draw attention towards the planet.

Wait, they are going to use Hayden's actual voice and then edited it in post production to make it mimic JEJ? Why not just have Hayden in the suit and then get JEJ to do the voice work just like in ROTS?

I realise JEJ is pushing 90, and although ageing his voice was still good enough in Rouge One which was only 4 years ago.

I'm guessing we'll be getting a few scenes without the helmet. It's perfect being 16-17 years since ROTS (in our time) and Hayden will truly look like an aged Vader.

I imagine despite living in solitude, watching over Luke and biding his time until the time was right would still require awareness of larger events going on around the galaxy, so it would make sense for him to have access to IHV, the news & entertainment providers in the Galactic Empire. I can’t see Vader not featuring in some way or another in the Empire’s greatest propaganda tool (no Masked Singer jokes thank you).
