"While his most recent film saw him steer into crime-thriller territory, delivering rip-roaring car chases and spins on the traditional heist movie, he’s about to venture even further from his comedy roots with his next film. Talking to Empire, Wright revealed his next project is a straight-up psychological horror-thriller – he cites Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski's Repulsion as influences – set in London, and starring a female lead.

'I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years,' Wright tells Empire in the new issue, out 24 January. 'With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.' Sounds like a good idea to me, curious to see him do something completely non-comedic.

Repulsion’s a great movie, plus it’s a word I’d describe Polanski as. Badum tsh.

Anyway, looking forward to whatever Wright does.

Not sure if Wright will go full horror and "Horromedy" as i'm terming his style of Shaun of the Dead movie or to an extent, Hot Fuzz.

I think he played Baby Driver pretty straight, so he's probably gonna do a full horror movie.

Psychological horror is my favorite kind of horror. Anxious to see if Wright branches out successfully. Baby Driver is the only films of his I've seen so far. Liked it a lot. I tried to watch Scott Pilgrim a couple of years ago but couldn't stomach it for more than 15 minutes.

You need to give Scott Pilgrim another try, and dive into the Cornetto Trilogy. Wright is one of the best filmmakers who have gotten their start within the last two decades, and I look forward to any new genre he takes on.

The blurb in the OP certainly doesn't sound like he's gonna be needling the clichés of a genre, like he did with the Cornetto movies. I like that Wright is breaking out and experimenting with new things. He's an exceptionally gifted filmmaker.

I actually had to look that up.

I am aware of those movies, always read good things about them, but I didn't know they were referred to as the Cornetto trilogy.

Anyone who's seen Wright's list of his 1,000 favorite films knows it's brimming with horror films and thrillers (and just a lot of great picks in general; I own quite a few of them

); can't wait to see what he'll do making a straight-ahead horror film (and disturbing masterpieces like ROSEMARY'S BABY and DON'T LOOK NOW serving as inspiration are great starting points).

There's enough energy, verbal and visual cleverness in any given Wright film for several movies...I'm all in for this.
