Pixar is either spoiling us, or preemptively preparing to make up for Onward. Either way this we’ll be getting at least one Pixar winner next year with Pete Doctor involved.

This isn’t really surprising as the release dates have been the same for a couple years now. It’s just like Marvel, they’re slowly taking off the curtain on future releases. I think in this case, it’s smart Pixar is releasing them closely as neither film is expected to make more than Incredibles 2 or Toy Story 4 but if both films preform well then it’ll look really good for them.

2015 could’ve been like this if Good Dinosaur did a lot better, albeit that film got delayed from 2014 and took Finding Dory’s original release date.

Docter is more of a visionary and his films are some of Pixar’s most creative but I think Unkrich is a better storyteller. Coco and TS3 are two of their most emotional movies.

I love the title art. At first I thought it was THIS project, but there is more known already:

Described as “a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions,” Soul will be directed by Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up, Inside Out) with Dana Murray (Lou) as producer.

Although no other plot details have been disclosed thus far, the film’s tagline points to an existential premise along the lines of the Oscar-winning Inside Out: “Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you… YOU?”
