I need to see this on Dolby/IMAX. I hope they'll give it some sort of release in theaters eventually.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Academy won't vote for it because it's not the Best Picture this year. That'd be reason 1. Since the voters usually watch all the movies via streaming/screeners, it getting a theatrical release usually doesn't hold much bearing. That's one of those rumors people hear and just hold on to.

If Parasite debuted on Hulu/Netflix etc instead of it's smallish theatrical release, it'd still win BP. Of course I don't have any evidence or proof, since it's all conjecture..but neither does the opposite argument

I don't even think that it is even guaranteedthat it will be nominated. Don't understand why suddenly people think the academy cares about animated films.

I really liked this movie. Not as much as some, but It'll still be on my Top 10. I don't expect it to be nominated for BP. Not because it's animated, but because it just wasn't good enough (IMO). I wouldn't be surprised to see it nominated either

I know a lot of people like to hate on Bill Hunt, but for whatever it’s worth he says this is getting a physical release in April.

4/5
You're kidding, right? The city scenes in particular are absolutely stunning.

Background, yes although some of the characters are too cartoony and uninspired (disappointing because Pixar is amazing).

Well, character design is of course a matter of personal taste. It didn't bother me. Of course may people are bothered by the character animation in Polar Express or Tin-Tin or Disney's Christmas Carol (uncanny valley) but that doesn't bother me either.

Definitely the city itself is stunning in it's detail and complexity.

I loved this. Excellent film making. Would’ve liked to have seen Joe face his fear of the Great Beyond and pass on, but that’s not a complaint, just a difference in opinion.

I agree. I think Joe and Curley especially looked really ridiculous.

The uncanny valley approach irks me. It doesn't look human and I'm always pointing out its not real in my mind.

I thought the animation of people in this was very good. My only beef was the big dialogue end piece with Dorothea Williams talking to Joe - it looked like the mouth was mismatched with the dialogue, almost like something out of dubbed anime. But that was a very small part of the film and could have easily been me trying to follow along to the dialogue.

According to the Digital Bits, Soul should be getting a physical release in April. Crossing my fingers.

Watched it today.

Thought it was OK. Score and Design were absolutely beautiful but the story and characters were not that interesting and the story/character's choices didn't really make sense at parts.

7/10

Isn't 7/10 quite high for a movie that's "OK"?

That was really funny farerb! Haha! I still think the film is a masterpiece personally though. People can find plot holes in anything. The importance is if people like it.

This article kind of baffles me, in a way.

https://www.insider.com/pixar-soul-movie-review-2020-12

It's the fact that the writer thinks that having 22 be voiced by a white woman is a problem.

What are all your thoughts about it?
