No idea what fantasy is going to do... but maybe this season will have to be a wash? I'm reading all sorts of rumors. Best case scenario is the league will be on hiatus for 2-3 weeks to quarantine all players, and from there they will play in empty arenas. Worst case scenario is that today was the last day of the season and there will be no playoffs.

it doesnt sit right with me to just declare a winner based on standings right now. i think a wait and see approach is the way to go here....

thoughts?

FYI

I just made the decision to LOCK all transactions (player adds/drops) until further notice and we all know what is going to happen.

I don't see any reason why we shouldn't wait and see...

Unless of course you want to count the current week's matchups into the standings and then declare a winner.

i am going to wait and see but this is most definitely going to get tricky.

will Yahoo even update their platform to align with the new changes? meaning weeks played etc.

if the season goes on but not until June and injured players somehow come back like KD, should those players even be eligible?

then, the obvious, if the season is simply canceled, how do we settle payouts etc...

i have a lot to think about but cant make any decisions until we know how the NBA will ultimately handle all of this.

From Yahoo fantasy's twitter:

We understand that the NBA's decision raises a lot of questions and directly impacts many of our fantasy leagues and members. We are reviewing the information as it becomes available and are working on a plan; we aim to keep you, our users, up to date on any final decisions made.
Hopefully they'll come to a decision in the near future. But I agree that it would be unfair to pick up injured players coming back (how would that be decided, the waiver wire or just first come first serve?) and I think Black Dragons picking up Capela and Oubre already was pretty shady tbh.

i will be addressing him directly on those pickups as he did them in my other league as well...

i may have to ultimately say, ANY player who was injured and not on an active roster prior to last night will be ineligible for the remainder of the year.

that being said, Isaac isnt expected to play this season and Capela still has a murky outlook...so those moves could actually hurt him rather than help...

but, it will be addressed.

If anyone should have first dibs to pick up an injured player who may return if the season resumes months from now it should be the person who originally drafted him. The person should have the chance to reclaim the once-injured player, and if he chooses to pass on him, then the player is allowed to be picked up based on waiver order.

As for KD, Klay, Wall, etc., they should be locked from being selected. If they weren't going to play if the season ended in April, they shouldn't be eligible.

In regards to our league, if the NBA is going to call this season a wash and not hold playoffs or crown champions, I don't think we should either. Our pot can roll over into the next season if that absolute worst outcome becomes a reality; anyone who doesn't want to play again next season can be reimbursed.

i dont think rolling over the payout is a good option in my opinion either. we were literally a few days from playoffs being locked. there are several people who have been eliminated from playoffs and dont see how/why they should be reimbursed. and at the same time i dont think i agree with just handing out payments based on current seeding either as anything can happen in the playoffs....

i am in talks with various other commissioners and pondering all ideas and situations. but i am inclined at this moment to say if you were eliminated from playoffs, youre gonna be paying someone

From Yahoo:

For Head-to-Head Leagues:

We’re extending the current game week (21 of the season) by 28 days, so the week goes from March 9 to April 12. All future game weeks have been extended by 28 days.

seems pretty inevitable at this point that the season is going to be canceled.

whats up guys.

starting to think about fantasy again and contemplating a few options. let me know your thoughts.

option 1 - payouts for everyone who was not mathematically eliminated from playoffs. this would payout 1-8. however, this could be broken down further by removing the 8 seed since the probability of them making the playoffs is extremely low. so, option one would be straight up mathematically, paying out 1-8 regardless of probability. or, removing the 8 seed as the chances of them making playoffs were so low. i would have to look at the probability of the 7 seed making it as well in order to decide if they actually had a shot at making playoffs and would also be excluded from payout.

Option 2 - payout top 6 (playoff teams) regardless of others chances to move up in the standings based on 4 games which didnt get played for the last week.

Option 3 - even money for anyone not mathematically eliminated, while the top 4 seeds which were locked into playoffs split the remaining money

Option 4 - to be honest, i am not inclined to do this option but will throw it out there since it is an option in theory. basically, everyone gets their buy-in back and call it a lost season. reason i am inclined to NOT do this is simple, there are teams that were mathematically eliminated from playoffs already. so why should they get money back?

option 5 - if the season has another week of games played before the nba playoffs start, we use that week to finish up our fantasy season, playoff positions lock, and only playoff teams get paid money evenly.

I'm sure you guys saw the news about how the NBA plans to return. Since only 22 teams are returning, there's no way fantasy leagues can continue at this point.

Option 2 or 3 seems to be the best IMO. I don't agree with Option 1 because I don't think the 8th seed should get any compensation since Lawrence's Team had no chance of becoming even .500 from like Week 5.

i thought later about how some teams wont be playing, so playing out the last week wont work, so basically, the season is over and we need to figure out payouts. agreed.

but, Lawrence is the 10th seed, not 8th. and doesnt have a mathematical chance of making playoffs...

How about this:

- There are currently 6 teams with a record of .500 or above.

- #5 and #6 are barely above .500, so they get just get their $25 back.

- #1-#4 get $50 each.

The NBA has announced the 22-team season restart plan has been approved. As a result, the Yahoo Fantasy Basketball season has ended, and we will apply the current standings as final. Please see the NBA 2019-20 End of Season FAQ for more information, including Pro League and Cash League details.

not sure i like that only because anything can happen in the playoffs...but, i do like your rationale that the bubble teams, 7&8 seeds only get buy-in back while the remaining top 6 split the rest.

7&8 weren't even at .500, why should they get their buy-in back?

being 500 is irrelevant.

we were in the last week of the regular season, so 7 and 8 seed had a mathematical chance to make playoffs still...

but, im going to look at the 7 and 8 seeds more closely to see if they had a realistic shot at making the playoffs... i think i can remove the 8 seed but 7 seed did have a shot....

I don't think a shot at making the playoffs should even matter this season... considering we'll never know what would've happened if the playoffs happened.

Just reward the best teams and move on to next season.
