There's no reason for it not to support 3D. Blu-ray 3D support is just a simple software upgrade and adds nothing to the cost of the system.

I agree. But i remember it took some time after PS4 Got the upgrade to play 3D

As long as you have a PSVR, you can currently watch 3D blu-rays on it while wearing the headset. And they did confirm that the PSVR will work on the PS5.

I am talking about regular update for 3D Blu-Ray discs like with PS3 and PS4

This might sound a bit thick but will the fact the PS5 plays 4K discs mean it will also playback Blu-ray and DVD also?

Yes it will be able to play all three.

There's no reason to think it won't. All of Sony's higher-end blu-rays or 4K players support 3D, and that's basically what the PS5 is going to be.

yeah.. it would be a downgrade. So it should be able to play 3D Blu-Rays

It will be great if true but I find it a bit disturbing how a film fan like yourself can be so dismissive of 4K. I mean, it’s a dream for HT enthusiasts with a projector or large OLED.

I get the 3D love though, I’m a big fan myself.

As a lifelong film fan, I find many 4K restorations far too clean and digital and completely lacking atmosphere compared to the old tapes and DVDs.

I watched the remastered Escape From New York not long ago and was very disappointed - it was so clean and bright, it just looked like actors playing dress-up. Which of course they were, but it was the 4K restoration that shattered the illusion. Turn on motion smoothing and the destruction of that cinematic feeling is complete.

Not necessarily, though Sony would have to be absolute dunderheads not to allow DVD and Blu-ray playback. What I'm waiting on is a full HD upgrade to the PSVR, I would buy that on day 1...

The one tragedy of the PS5 will be that it will still support legacy region locking, so you'll still need another player to play all those discs from another region.

I pray to God that Sony doesn't 'Pull a Samsung'...

Samsung aggressively & recklessly removed 3D to support their 'All 4K' agenda.

As a media company, I expect far more from Sony (I want support for DVD, BD, 3D, DV, 4K).

And I'm not just talking PSVR here, I want full media playback on a physical display.

why would anyone keep it on? On any new display you always have to make sure the artificial picture destroying crap is turned off. You can't blame the format for that.

I think he's speaking broadly about some revisionist modern video transfers...

But speaking of Motion Smoothing, VUDU applies it heavily and without any options.

I'd like to watch some 4K movies with DV, but VUDU has too much Motion Smoothing.

But on disc, mostly what you get is just HDR10...
