Default The Addams Family 2

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: It’s happening. No, not Cousin It, rather MGM/UAR are already planning a sequel to this past weekend’s animated hit The Addams Family with a release date of Oct. 22, 2021.

With Columbus Day holiday in effect and 42% K-12 schools off yesterday, the Conrad Vernon-Greg Tiernan $40M production raked in $4.8M yesterday for a 4-day of $35M opening in 2nd place, beating a $138M Will Smith production, Gemini Man, which tanked with $23M.

The Addams Family came to MGM after producer Gail Berman and EP Andrew Mittman secured the film rights from the Charles Addams estate. The estate headed by Kevin Miserocchi, always wanted to do an animated film. MGM launched the movie like an event pic with a $150M global promotional partner campaign, the largest outside their 007 franchise. Once Sausage Party‘s Vernon was aboard, the star power voiceover talent spilled in with Charlize Theron (Morticia), Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Finn Wolfard (Pugsley), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Snoop Dogg (It), Bette Midler (Grandma), Allison Janney (Margaux Needler), Martin Short (Grandpa Frump) and Catherine O’Hara (Grandma Frump).

Pic scored high marks with its 61% driven family audiences with kids under 12 giving the pic 4 stars, and parents the same on PostTrak. The Addams Family, amid a ton of competition this weekend including the opening of Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil which is vying for families, is expected to hold with an estimated $15M, -50%.

Oh.

This was unexpectedly fast. I thought the first was ok but it was just that. Maybe this sequel can ramp things up. I'm in.

The first one was boring but that's never stopped studios from rushing out sequels.

Sony obviously wants a replacement for the aging Hotel Transylvania series when it comes to "kiddie horror" for the October season.

I actually still like Hotel Transylvania and I enjoyed the animated Addams Family. But even I am surprised they greenlit a sequel already. I wish the animated smurfs movie would get a sequel.

Sony had nothing to do with the Addams family movie in fact universal studios has more to do with the the Addams family movie than Sony because the film was made by Mgm

Smurfs is an important property to Sony and even though Lost Village flopped in the US I don't think they'll stop making Smurfs movies. Though I think SPA is taking a break from them, now focusing on originals and Spider-Verse films.

Smurfs the Lost Village made 197 million on a 60 million budget so it wasn't a flop just not very successful. Though it is sad that the live action movies made more money.

That's why I said "in the US" cause it only made $45 million domestically. It would've been a bomb if it wasn't for overseas.

True but most of the Sony animated films didn't do all that well...except for the Hotel Transylvania movies and Spiderman into the Spiderverse.

I am surprised that Addams Family animated movie is not a from Sony.

Man, why does every animated film by a second rate studio gotta play into that horrible bland Illumination skit trailer format. I get it’s dirt cheap and doesn’t bamboozle the young kids to easily, but it such bargain basement creativity that goes into this shit.

Chloe Moretz as Wednesday has been really good casting. She’s like the polar opposite of the bubbly Mavis from the Hotel Transylvania franchise, and I enjoy both of their characters.

In this case it’s probably because the animation isn’t finished and they aren’t ready to show actual scenes from the movie since it’s a year away from release. They wanted to market the sequel now since it’s October/Halloween season. That would be my guess.

The decision to adapt the original comic strip was a smart one, considering they couldn't compete with the 90s films for a better live action adaptation. It managed to capture the attitude of the Addams Family without feeling like a copy of what's come before.

i've heard some troubling rumors about this film... i'll put them down below.

[Show spoiler]MGM is rushing out Addams Family 2, and is making the animators work overtime to have it done by next year
