Adam McKay has berthed his new production company Hyperobject Industries to a first look feature film deal at Paramount Pictures, and hopes the new relationship will get off the ground with the pending destruction of earth by a meteor, in a moment where everything is paralyzed by polarizing and partisan political and media landscapes.

McKay hopes to next direct Don’t Look Up, which Paramount will get first look at when he completes the first draft soon. He describes it as a “dark satire in the school of Wag the Dog, Doctor Strangelove and Network and if it is half as good as any of them, I will be happy,” McKay told Deadline. “Two mid-level astronomers discover a meteorite will destroy earth in six months and must go on a media tour to warn mankind.” [source]

This sounds hilarious. Big Short is great and I have issues with Vice, but I warmed up to it much more the second time around. Should be fun to see McKay go back to tackling a fictional story.

Netflix Takes ‘Don’t Look Up’, Jennifer Lawrence To Star

Netflix has boarded Adam McKay’s new comedy feature Don’t Look Up which Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence will star in. Deadline first broke the news about the project last November when we announced the Oscar-winning Big Short filmmaker’s new first look deal at Paramount Pictures under his label Hyberobject Industries.

Don’t Look Up tells the story of two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that will destroy planet earth. Production will begin in April for a release later this year. (Deadline)

"Don't Look Up" Project Speculation: Based on the construction coordinator they've hired, it would seem like they'll likely be filming in Massachusetts. (Might be the complete film, or part of it.)

Except for Joy. I don't remember anything comedic about that movie. I did not like that movie one bit. Shame, cause I love American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook.
