OR just put it back on Netlix/Amazon prime.... I know Outbreak is back on Netflix but Contagion has been gone for years.

This is the DUMBEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN theaters do.

Remember that scene in Outbreak where the dude coughs and the camera follows the particles around the theater?

Wouldn't it be wiser to install better air filters? If you do get infected...how do you know it didn't come from someone else in another screen?
AMC will only sell tickets up to 50% capacity...I think anyone that goes to see a movie will naturally just sit a seat or 2 apart from any stranger

Maybe my local AMC will finally add recliner seats now.

I wonder how non-assigned seating theatres are going to do this? Before this outbreak, at my theatre, I usually get there first and choose the center front seat (best seat IMO) and there would be like 200 other seats but the other 15-20 people coming in will sit behind me, a few seats down from me, etc. It's annoying.

I would assume every other seat would be void since it's 50%.

My local Carmike-turned-AMC Classic is a dump. $3.99 tickets before 5pm but their seats are non-stadium. Screens are small. Lights in the theatres are non-existent so you can barely see your way to find seats.

Now would be a great time for AMC to remodel it's Classic theatres.

even at 50% capacity I'm sure the actual number of people going to each screening will be significantly lower- probably closer to 20%

Browsing the NY theatres Empire 25 and Lincoln Square and they are ghost towns for their 7pm showtimes.

There's legitimate concerns for sure, but then there's also a significantly disproportionate fear being spread about too in regards to how people are responding to this. By all means take precautions and offer advice to people showing symptoms to isolate etc. for a period of time but putting entire countries into lockdown? How is that serving a society to function in any other way than creating a panic to go buy X, Y, Z before it runs out and nobody can buy anything.

So i stand by my point, the fear seems to be driving people more than the actual facts of what has happened.

Malco here in Memphis has joined the herd in going to half capacity. Hardly needed, though; the 7:15 IMAX Bloodshot has sold 16 out of 300 tickets, many of the evening shows I checked are completely empty. And I looked at a dozen matinees earlier, not a single ticket sold on a Friday, and that included this week's new movies.

I guess nobody can go to the movies because they're all at Walmart, panic buying toilet paper. By lunchtime, my store had completly sold out of TP, paper towels, milk, cereal, most of the canned goods, baby formula... Welcome to the apocalypse. Less zombies, more Charmin...

So I guess this is what "sold out" showings will now look like. Cinemas seem to be active tonight. Sucks the limited seating will make it appear like theatre's are dead.
It probably would be better if they staggered the seats like tic-tac-toe. The way it shows here, people can still cough onto the ones seated in front of them.

I've been doing that for years. Nothing I hate more than being boxed in on all sides by complete strangers at the movies, and not due to worries about viruses, either. I always want as many empty seats between me and anyone else in my row -- or the rows in front of and behind me -- as possible.

but you can't really control that...even if you have several seats empty on either side of you, there's nothing preventing someone else from coming in and sitting right next to you
