I must admit that I suspected Madman would release Crimes of the Future on Blu Ray. Would have been crazy not to.

Australia DVD only, despite initially advertising a Blu-Ray release.

Youíd think Sony Universal would want to continue to push Blu-Rays. The initial listing, as an Aussie Blu-Ray, got me excited that I wouldnít have to import OR at least I could simply walk in and choose to buy the f*cking disc.

And this show here, based on the film, is broadcast on SBS I believe (DVD only for Season 1 in Oz, nichts for S2 & S3)

Being a fan of the original German mini-series, history, WWII and submarines, I would have bought this one in a heartbeat, if there was an Aussie BD release.

I thought this was a BD release too and added the listing to the database but I'll have to ask the admins to remove it now .

The Criterion Collection release seems like the way to go then, it was this (!) close to being the "it" release but it's lacking a 4K disc and the 12min of deleted scenes.

Looks like Warner/HBO are keeping up retro theme a bit too literally with this release, and going DVD only (according to Sanity):

I hate how HBO picks and chooses what Mini-Series are good enough for BD here for TV titles.
What are they basing the popularity of a title on? I’m sure there a lot of NBA fans that would like to purchase this locally in High Definition.
Much like Mare of Easttown being BD just about every territory but ours.

So glad Amazon US is allowing us to pre-order again, for a lot of titles.

EDIT: Oh, another one, just about every region gets a BD, 4K for US and a couple of other regions, and we get an SD release on 20 plus year old technology.

Yet another WTF dizzy decision that snows just how f*cked up our Blu-Ray/4K market really is.

Just saw this film on Foxtel and was wondering why the frack I didn’t blind buy (something that would normally be on my radar).
BD is listed as cancelled here in Australia… Still got a f*cking DVD though.

US, UK, Germany got UHD BD as well as BD.

Just about every country in Europe got a Blu-Ray. Unbelievable that we only got shit, AKA a DVD release.

This situation has been rectified, though the iTunes Store doesn't do upgrades from SD to HD, only HD to 4K.

No physical release either, as it happens.

That's as sacrilegious as the Mad Max situation!

HD should be the freaking default in this day and age.

It's bad enough we don't get movies on Blu-ray it's worse when they list it for Blu-ray only to cancel it at the last minute.

We can add Paws Of Fury: The Legend Of Hank to that list.

Just saw that Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, is advertised in Stack as DVD only in Australia. Yet overseas, UK and US get Blu-Ray. And there is even a US 4K Best Buy.

That’s f*cked up. Only choice is to import, again.

Yeah horror gets shafted a fair bit these days in Australia with DVD only releases of Malignant, X and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. All three didnít do well at the Australian box office which seems to be the determining factor on getting anything beyond a DVD release down under. Smile managed to get a Blu Ray release probably due to its strong showing at the box office but we miss out on the 4K that other parts of the world gets. However if itís a new film thatís part of a successful franchise like Resident Evil, Scream or Halloween then it scores a local 4K release - seemingly regardless of its box office performance or itís quality (while I enjoyed the last Resident Evil and the Scream reboot I disliked Halloween Ends to the point I wonít be buying a copy despite owning the first two in the new trilogy).

Speaking of the neglect of Horror on Blu-Ray, I neglected to mention another BD that was DVD only (since Iíd be on this thread constantly):

Studio 666 is probably best labelled as ďHorror ComedyĒ more then anything else. Donít know if it got a Theatrical release in Australia, but I found it wasnít too bad (Watched it on Foxtel). I enjoyed it so much, Iím actually importing a copy of the US BD.

Studio 666 got a release here, more wide than most horror films of it's kind (due to the Foo Fighters connection I know).

While it looks like Australia is getting a Blu-Ray of Babylon:

We arenít getting a 4K release, which should be the standard for a film that cost as much as it did to make.
Looks like Iím importing, again.

Would rather spend a few dollars more rather then get burned like I did with Last Night in Soho. Bought the Aussie Blu-Ray, but thoroughly enjoyed it, wish I had gotten the 4K initially as itís a bit too rich for me to double dip.

no worries on this - the film is garbage - and won't sell !!

It's becoming somewhat standard now - that MANY FILMS will not get either a BD or 4K release in this country.

The thread sadly is becoming redundant - consumers simply don't care - added the lack of B&M shops for buying this product makes it more difficult to have any sales.
