3.333 was made exclusively for IMAX, and the home video releases in Japan were IMAX Enhanced (similar to the Disney+ streams of the Marvel Studios films).
It looks like 3.0+1.11 would be in a similar IMAX Enhanced format as well. I do love the Amazon Prime Video promotional artwork, though. My ideal release would have three different artworks for each film: the plain background for the slipcover, with a reversible cover that can go from either the Amazon Prime Video cover or the theatrical poster. If they can include every version released on home video in a set, I would love a GKIDS Collector's Edition set/lineup that has the following: EVANGELION:1.0: Disc 1: EVANGELION:1.11 Blu-ray (with D-Box to simulate the 4DX/MX4D motion experience) Disc 2: EVANGELION:1.01 Blu-ray (an HD version of 1.01 exists, but it has only been released in France and Spain) EVANGELION:2.0: Disc 1: EVANGELION:2.22 Blu-ray Disc 2: EVANGELION:2.22 NOGUCHI ver. Blu-ray EVANGELION:3.0: Disc 1: EVANGELION:3.333 IMAX Enhanced 4K Ultra HD Disc 2: EVANGELION:3.333 IMAX Enhanced Blu-ray 2D Disc 3: EVANGELION:3.33 Blu-ray 2D (including the Giant Warrior Appears in Tokyo Ghibli tokusatsu short film) EVANGELION:3.0+1.0: Disc 1: EVANGELION:3.0+1.11 IMAX Enhanced 4K Ultra HD Disc 2: EVANGELION:3.0+1.11 IMAX Enhanced Blu-ray 2D Disc 3: EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 Blu-ray 2D Disc 4: Bonus Blu-ray Last edited by Hydra Spectre; 11-26-2022 at 01:31 PM. |

They are still 2.35:1 but they have been remastered for the IMAX standard, and they are IMAX Enhanced.
There are some IMAX Enhanced releases that are still CinemaScope-only like the UHD releases of Jumanji: The Next Level, Charlie's Angels 2019, Zombieland: Double Tap, and Bad Boys For Life. Anyways, what do you think of my idea for a release with three different cover art designs per film? Again, the slipcover will be the typical "black/rainbow English title on top of a plain colour" while having a standard Amaray case with a reversible cover art showcasing either the theatrical poster or the Amazon Prime Video artwork. But if we still want DigiPacks like the original Japanese release, then I suggest making a single DigiPack with just the plain colour cover art, but with two variants with either a Prime Video slipbox, or a theatrical poster slipbox. Maybe Shout! Factory can do something similar to how they treated Child's Play 2 and 3, where some releases have an alternate slipbox. GKIDS/Shout! should do two separate releases: a standard one-disc (Blu-ray-only) or two-disc release (Blu-ray + DVD) for each film except for 3.0+1.11 (which would either be a two-disc Blu-ray + Bonus or a three-disc Blu-ray + Bonus + DVD), all with the Amazon Prime Video artwork as seen on the Dutch Blu-rays. And then there would be Collector's Editions for each film that will have multiple discs (four discs for 1.11, three discs for 2.22, six discs for 3.333, and eight discs for 3.0+1.11). And the IMAX Enhanced 3.333 version will be exclusive to the Collector's Edition, and so will the 4K discs and both 1.01 and 3.0+1.01. Last edited by Hydra Spectre; 11-24-2022 at 07:19 AM. |

I bought the original collector's when it came out, feels weird they're re-releasing it... again.

Considering that its only extras are the 40-page booklet (which is basically on par with ADV's seven smaller "Platinum" DVD booklets in terms of content), the "Video Format" version of EoE, and the old ADV (TV series) / Manga (Death/EoE) dub, even at $140 it's still grossly overpriced unless you're a dub-watcher who is so opposed to the new Netflix/VSI dub that paying $100 extra as compared to the standard 5-disc release somehow seems like a viable option. And the subtitles are even worse in the movies since they are partially dubtitles (most obvious with Shinji's line in the hospital scene). Some lines of dialogue are also outright missing in the Manga subtitles, but the Netflix subtitles are mostly properly translated for the entire show. I prefer the classic dub for the dub options, but the Netflix subtitles are my preferred sub options. Still, I want to get this box set just so I could have the classic dub in HD. I'm hoping GKIDS would release this Collector's Edition box set with this plain box and a wider release. This plain colour minimalist box actually matches better with the Rebuild cover art than either the Renewal artwork on the Standard Edition, the LaserDisc artwork on the Ultimate Edition, or the MAGI artwork on the OG Collector's Edition. And I would love it if GKIDS would release similar looking Collector's Editions of the Rebuild films. As for other GKIDS releases I want, I'm still waiting for them to release Future Boy Conan and Nadia in 4K UHD like what happened in the UK. |

I completely get why people don't want to pay the price for either the Collector's Edition or Limited Edition. They're both outrageous. But as a long time fan who could afford it, I felt like I HAD to get them and I'm very happy with them. They are gorgeous, high-quality sets and they stand out in my collection. They took advantage of Eva's fervent fandom and they rung the money out of me.

When the Ghibli films get released in 4K UHD, would you prefer the digital films to have digital transfers that have been filtered to look like 35mm film (with film grain and gate weave, like every other Ghibli release on Blu-ray right now)? Or would you prefer them to do what was done for Dune 2021 and print out the films to 35mm before being scanned back to 4K or 6K?
I personally wish that Ghibli would do something similar to Dune, where they actually print the film out to 35mm instead of using artificial filters. This makes a more authentic analogue 35mm look than just digital film grain/gate weave filters like what Ghibli usually does. |

Why would you want to change them? Let the digital ones look digital and the analogue ones look as analogue as possible, exactly like the Blu-rays.

Seems like it's missing the booklet from the original collector's edition, I wonder what the price will be. I imagine it will be even cheaper than the original collector's edition. I don't need it I don't need it ...I kinda want it though |
