"Come Rain or Come Shine" by Ray Charles playing over the opening credits of "The King of Comedy".
"Pennies from Heaven" from "Pennies from Heaven". All of the songs in "An American Werewolf in London". The two aforementioned Kubrick films (Strangelove, and Clockwork). "Love Letters" in "Blue Velvet" and in "Killing Them Softly". On another note: I always thought the moment in Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" where Max Cherry (Robert Forster) instantly falls for Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) on sight and it immediately plays Bloodstone's "Natural High" was a very touching moment. Beautifully done. But, when I saw it in the theater in 1997, everyone seemed to take it for irony, and laughed their butts off in the theater. Like the whole audience cringed and laughed. I took it for sincerity. My son maintains it was intended as both. I think that's a very good take. |

Black Christmas (1974) - A group of child Christmas carolers beautifully singing 'O Come Let Us Adore Him' at the front porch, while someone is being brutally murdered upstairs in another room.

Every time I hear the old song "Mr. Sandman" it reminds me of Halloween II.

A lot of the great ones have already been mentioned, but I get a kick out of Bullet Tooth Tony rocking out to Madonna's Lucky Star while kicking the shit out of people in Snatch.

Another one from the same film is Donovan's hippy-drippy Atlantis playing while Billy Batts is getting battered to death in the bar. I'd say this peace and love tune about "beautiful sailors" is even more ironic than the sombre play-out of Layla.
