Son is an excellent horror film staring Andi Matichak, as well. I have the BD and there's an awesome 4K disc, with HDR from Germany. It's English friendly and can be purchased from Amazon.de or DiabolikDVD. FYI

Stream it first and see if you think it's worth getting on disc.

i liked parts of it. but you don’t an “a for effort” as a studio film with a $20 million budget. taking a chance isn’t enough. and doing that third movie is definitely too little, too late. (even though they didn’t take a chance until they grossed almost $400 million solely on name recognition.)

and no one would say that there aren’t a lot of flaws in the movie.

There are flaws in every movie if you look close enough. I’m satisfied with this trilogy, faults and all. There are enough things to like in all three films that I’m more than happy to have them sitting alongside the original, H2, H3 and RZ’s 1&2. (The latter being the director’s cut).

Think about the franchise you're talking about. I wasn't "promised" anything. I was already invested in this world from the start. I knew that DGG left plenty of clues about his love for H3 in the previous 2 movies. So don't get so shocked when they decide to take a left turn. Hell they even sort of honored H3 with this concept, all the way down to the opening titles.

All it takes is an open mind. Loved that we didn't get another cookie cutter Myers slash and stab flick, but something new. Like that they chose to still include Myers and look at him in a different light. His essence is permeated throughout the entire movie. Throughout Haddonfield. That's actually more frightening if you think about it.

Yes, I checked Amazon UK myself and it states "Acorn" as the studio on the listing page for Son. Where the confusion from my point of view came was from seeing "A Shudder Exclusive" on the front cover artwork for the UK Blu-ray release. Same with The Amusement Park and other films released on the Acorn label (I can't remember seeing Son in the DVD Movies thread for Shudder, but I didn't know to look for it at the time, until the last few days with the Halloween trilogy connection).

Is there any physical media release of Son which has more bonus features/extras than others, or is it generally the same amount across all of them? Thanks for the recommendation of this film.

You know, even if you dislike the trilogy, ya gotta admit they managed to recapture the responces to the first three films which is something no one else has done.

1978 and 2018 were both loved by critics and fans.

II and Kills received criticism about it being "more stupid" and the hospital subplot.

III and Ends both were slammed for "pointless plots" and not having enough Michael Myers.

I feel there has been something for everyone in the trilogy overall. We had the shape actually looking like the shape for the hardcore fans, we had a great soundtrack that retained the appeal of the original while simultaneously sprucing it up, we had the superb one-shot tracking scene with Michael back in Haddonfield, we had several good kills (the floodlight/sensor) being my personal favourite.
In the sequel we had a slaughter fest, with several brutal kills and plenty of Michael (cough), plus that great flashback Michael Myers, in the final film we had a unique angle, with the film taking some interesting diversions before delivering a definite conclusion. I personally found Ends to have the best cinematography too.

A trilogy of Halloween films were never going to please everyone.

I’m going to have fun watching all three back to back in January.

Absolutely. RZ came closest before these new films and I liked the look but H4,H5, H6, H20 and Resurrection failed miserably in that department.

True, but I'd be very surprised if, 40 years down the road, Ends gets as much love as Season of the Witch does now.

(but hey, who knows what will become a 'Cult Classic'? Us movie fans can be a weird bunch sometimes... )

I don't believe there is. The U.S. release has a featurette that runs a few minutes and I think the German 4K disc also has a featurette that runs a few minutes. I don't remember if they're the same.

I appreciate your helpful replies to my questions about Son on Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray. If I get the German Blu-ray release (haven't got a 4K set-up, and I'm not sure when that will happen), I may order it with a couple of other German Blu-ray releases of films (and a Blu-ray season set of a US TV series).

I'm really happy the franchise is over for now. Being a Halloween fan during this era of the franchise was not fun in the least.

Would you have preferred the H20/Ressurection Era?
Probably doesnt help that you watched the movie glued to your phone pausing to post every 10 minutes to say you didn't like it. Doesn;t seem like the optimal viewing experience.

I watched it through Peacock on my computer which has good resolution. And then re-watched it a couple days later with one of my friends who wanted me to watch it with them.

Don't assume things about people you don't know.
