These came in today, I think I'll be set for a little bit Watched Rudolph today so far. Can definitely see a nice increase in detail.

Prancer: A Christmas Tale (2022) (First time viewing. Blind bought this hoping I'd like it but unfortunately I didn't care much for it. James Cromwell is the only thing that got me through it. Also, something I've been noticing with modern digitally shot films is that a handful of scenes were either shot or mastered in the wrong framerate because there was some severe juttering going on which ruined a lot of the experience for me. It's been happening more lately, sadly)

Batman Returns (1992)

Been on a roll. Ran through Falling for Christmas and The Knight Before Christmas over the weekend and saw The Princess Switch tonight.

The wife HATES it when I stick these on.

#6 - 11/28/22: Rankin-Bass: The Little Drummer Boy Book II (1976) 1/2 - Revisit.

The Little Drummer Boy (1968) is my favorite of all the Rankin-Bass Christmas Specials because it captures the true meaning of Christmas but this one runs a very close 2nd. The soundtrack is outstanding and for those so inclined the final act will probably have you shedding "a few" tears of joy.

Here's my first movie for the Christmas season. This acts as both my final horror movie for the Halloween season and my first Christmas movie.

A Madea Christmas (2013)
This movie is wild. I doubt it would even be made today or at least not in the same way as it was in 2013. Peppered in every scene are stereotypes. It's a fascinating watch. I could see that Perry's intentions are good and I enjoyed it. Lame-ass jokes are funny.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) An all-time favorite, and mandatory Thanksgiving evening viewing.

A Christmas Story Christmas (2022) 1/2 This was better than I expected, and for the most part quite good. A couple of fantasy sequences were embarrassing (I'm looking at you Black Bart) because Ralph is a grown man, not a child who might have those daydreams. However, the main story had heart and it is well-worth seeing.

Spirited (2022) Another unexpectedly fun film. Yes, it's too long, probably has too many songs and really needed someone to tighten up the climax. but it works! Inventive, clever, funny (love the "Good Afternoon" number!) and it leaves you with that happy, Christmassy feeling. Really enjoyed it.

I'll Be Seeing You (1946) A little known Christmas film that really deserves to find an audience. Sentimental, nostalgic, and very unique in it's story line: a soldier suffering from PTSD meets a girl on a train. She's on a Christmas furlough from a prison sentence for manslaughter. These two damaged people find comfort and hope in each other over the holidays. Lovely film, with a great cast: Joesph Cotton, Ginger Rodgers, Shirley Temple and Spring Byington are all excellent in their roles.

I hadn't seen these in a few years and enjoyed them for the nostalgia factor as I saw each of these for the first time as a child.

Babes in Toyland (1986)

Can't really go wrong with a young Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves. To me the best scenes in the movie are the ones at the beginning in the real world where Lisa (Barrymore) and her family experience a snow storm on Christmas Eve. The music and Toyland itself are a bit underwhelming but the movie is overall pretty charming.

All is Bright

I was expecting a comedy but instead it's a drama with a few laughs.

12/1:

Violent Night (2022) *Theatrical viewing*
I really, really enjoyed this. If Die Hard, Home Alone, Bad Santa, Christmas Vacation and Fatman were put in a blender, this would be the result. It's a Christmas action flick that brings a lot of brutal and bloody, gory fights and set pieces but it's also a dark comedy with a lot of funny scenes and dialogue and it has a surprising amount of heart as well. David Harbour plays a different type of Santa Claus in this and he's really good here and John Leguizamo is really good in this too as the villain but the cast was good all around in this with Beverly D'Angelo playing a mom that's a complete opposite of Ellen Griswold.
This is a thoroughly fun and entertaining Christmas flick and I cannot recommend this enough.

7. A Christmas Carol 2009

I love A Christmas Carol and will try and catch as many versions as I can this year. This animated version is a lot of fun and Jim Carrey makes a great Scrooge.
