Watched last night on Netflix (last day it was available):
![]() Started well, I thought, and introduced some ideas that the viewer is lead to believe will be explored but subsequently weren't. For example, Morgan Freeman's character claimed to have been into the contaminated zone multiple times and encouraged Tech 49 to go too, but he didn't! We never really find out who or what invaded Earth and why and the leftover Tech 52 reuniting with the wife was a little convenient. I was going to blind buy the 4K until I spotted that it was on Netflix. Not sure that I will bother now. Last edited by Mr_Orange; 12-01-2022 at 04:36 AM. |

To play Devil’s advocate to your critique, I guess it doesn’t really matter [Show spoiler] It’s become a sci-fi trope ([Show spoiler] is probably the most memorable, from a plot point perspective), interestingly I thought, the entire operation could even have been automated, with an AI doing all the work, and the [Show spoiler] I recall Freeman saying that he’d seen [Show spoiler] But I do agree that the [Show spoiler] turning up at the end, years later and [Show spoiler] I did go into the film with low expectations, and when I saw it wasn’t a piece of shit, I have found that I have an affinity for the film. The visuals are spectacular and I do believe they used an old Kubrick style film projection SFX trick for the windows in the living quarters, instead of green screens. A similar special effect has now been embraced by all the new Star Wars series (with the exception of Andor, that went back to closed sets and on-location shoots), but instead of projecting on film screens, they use gigantic OLED backgrounds, so they actors are acting in front of a background they can see. |

Arrived: Amazon US via AU
![]() ![]() Will be watching as soon as I can, to get a break from the animation genre, considering this has been my recent viewing. ![]() Nice effort, good start, but the story stalls mid-way and I found it pretty average from there on. One of the weaker entries in the Despicable Me series from what I’ve watched so far (have not yet viewed the first two entries oddly). 7/10 ![]() Hard to find a fault with this one. Near perfect, highly original and entertaining film about a world we’re all animals, prey and predator, have banded together to create a Tokyo/New York meets Metropolis stylised city, that combines desert/arctic/jungle conditions. It looks like a utopia to outsiders, with the slogan, “In Zootopia anyone can be anything”, until you dig a little deeper and the reality is less then ideal. The animation is fantastic. One of Disney’s best efforts in years. Story and animation wise. PQ/AQ get top marks. Great ensemble cast, and the leads are awesome, that includes Idris Alba and Jason Bateman. Very re-watchable (viewed 3 times in the last week, my daughter loves it), with a lot of dialogue in the script for adults, while the “cute” animation style: Animals wearing clothes (in most places) and walking around on two legs, keeps young ones entertained. Lots in the there for film aficionados too. I loved the homages/references, from a subtle Gone with the Wind reference to an obvious ode to The Godfather and even Breaking Bad. Very highly recommended. 9.5/10 ![]() Not bad. Felt this prequel had a lot more to offer, then the first one. Minion jokes were better, so were the many homages to the ‘70’s (Minions was based in the late ‘60’s, despite the fact that Gru doesn’t appear to age that much between movies). From a James Bond style opening, 70’s style Kung-Fu movies, even a homage to a homage appears in the form of a Kill Bill uniform. A mix of action & prestigious actors lend their voices on this one, including Danny Trejo, Dolph Lundgren, Jean Claude-Van Damme, Russel Brand, Lucy Lawless, Taraji P. Henson, Julie Andrews, Steve Coogan and Alan Atkin. All in all, quite a good entry in my opinion. Recommended. 8/10 |

Yes, a very moving film. Upsetting. The vigilante hysteria that sets in when such an accusations come to the surface seemed a fairly accurate representation of the automatic assumption some people have that kids tell the truth and our human inadequacy to abide by the principle that a person must be innocent until proven guilty.
I watched Another Round recently too. I had not seen Mads Mikkelsen in much until these two films, but I'd consider myself a fan now. Great actor. |

I see that nobody is waiting for ViaVision's local 4K release of Reservoir Dogs. Is that because they will likely mess up the encode or because everybody is too impatient?
I must admit though, at $33.45 on Amazon AU, I think I'm going to pull the trigger and import too, ha, ha! |

Didn't buy a single thing at the recent sales, had a couple of planned purchases that I didn't go through with. Would've bought the Thor: Love and Thunder and Matrix Resurrections steelbooks from JB AU but the online allocation has sold out so I was SOL, will have to get the latter locally and the former in Europe I suppose.
Recently got a couple in though: ![]() ![]() Aladdin is the only movie I've owned on VHS, DVD, BD, and now 4K. Hard not to pick it up when it was only $7.98. ![]() |

If the database image is correct, you also got the Special Edition which isn't available (thankfully) in any other format! Spielberg's like the anti-Lucas with this particular film. Brings out a special edition for a 20th anniversary; receives criticism; locks it away and never brings it out on any format after DVD.
