Anyone heard anything about that animated movie 9 coming out here yet?

I'd rather not have to buy off Ebay from the UK sellers (to get a region B); they don't get it until 22nd February, and they're charging a fortune for it.

They don't really give a reason. All they say is that they think it might have something to do with the U.S. release date. Even the Aussie DVD version has been slimmed down to a single disc instead of the previous 2 disc edition, which sucks even more. The DVD will still hit our shores on December 29.

Thank goodness it's flagged for a UK release.
Gotta wait till june though....

I see that you have recently added Jane Campion's Bright Star to the list for 29 April. Since this was announced and retracted in the US and the UK, do you know if the Australian release is still on? And if so, is there a pre-order up anywhere?

Only, the incompleteness of that listing makes me very nervous. It doesn't even have the OFLC Classification. Fingers crossed it doesn't get axed.

Roadshow are pretty terrible in releasing Blus. They release Whatever Works (which grossed about squat at the BO) but they don't release Whip It (which made about $3M at the Aussie BO and stars Juno herself and is directed by one of the most popular Hollywood actresses!?)... I'm also bummed about A Perfect Getaway. Thought it was an excellent film and am pissed that it didn't get a Blu release, especially with such amazing scenery..

$85 for the 3 discs and no bonus content! US release gets 9 whole freaking discs! I don't really have a problem with that and I'll be buying them separately over a few weeks, but I know a lot of LOTR fans will rage!

How were they looking? Was there much work done on these? Audio?

Yes. Picnic has had a Digital restoration and new grading and sound mix. I also encoded to TrueHD audio. Dogs in Space is also a restoration and new grade, but still quite grainy. Dogs is a BD25, so had to make extras SD to keep the quality on the feature.
Picnic, BD50, has been encoded with our new Cinema Craft HD encoder, which is the best AVC encoder money can buy. We had not taken delivery at the time we encoded Dogs in Space.
Both are AVC.

You must have a really interesting job being involved in these and other releases.

It's great to see the Australian & NZ studio's starting to dig though their back catalogs, restore and repackage these great movies.

I picked up 'Wake in Fright' the other day from NFSA.
Can't wait to watch.

Just giving an update on all the new additions to the list, which've I've had a lot of this past week, mainly filling out the May lineup.

Amelia, Did You Hear About the Morgans? and Zombieland are set to hit store shelves on May 5th. Amelia will be available only to rent from March 24.

The Sylvester Stallone fighting pic Over the Top will be available on Blu-ray from May 12.

May 19 is a big day as Disney release Armageddon, Old Dogs, Tombstone and Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on Blu-ray. Also arriving on BD on May 19 are the Megan Fox horror pic Jennifer's Body, the ninja thriller Ninja Assassin, and True Blood - The Complete Second Season. Jennifer's Body will be available only to rent from March 31.

The Clint Eastwood-directed sport drama Invictus, starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, and Disney's long-awaited return to 2D animation The Princess and the Frog will both be available on Blu-ray Disc and DVD from June 2.
