Well that's disappointing. Probably won't double dip then. The steelbooks are cool but the artwork isn't good enough to justify it imo. I havn't even finished watching the series yet. I just wonder if these will be super limited.

I've seen mislabeling something on the back cover before (Ex: One single for Shuffle! listing the wrong aspect ratio, the disc had the correct AR, missing info on initial printings on the FMA BDs), but never disc art, and that's a bigger thing to get wrong. If these are the same discs as the Blu-ray Anime Classic sets (not surprising as it's extremely rare for anyone not Sentai to make new discs), it really makes me wonder how that error happened. Will be interesting to see how the other SteelBooks are labeled, and if we're going to have another disc replacement program, this time just because the art is wrong, not because of video or audio issues (Ex: Code Geass R2 Mono audio, Re:Zero atrocious video quality).

After work today I'll take close pics of the disc art and menus. My copy will be arriving today, but not before my shift starts sadly.

Well damn, I probably won't update my set then, I really don't care about special features. The only way I'll upgrade now is if they include the OVAs that released for the anniversary.

The new special feature is okay but nothing to write home about. It has Justin Cook, Chris Sabat, John Burgmeier and Cynthia Cranz sitting around talking about the early days of YYH and Funimation. I would've liked to see Chuck Huber, hope he's available for one of the other features.

I'm thinking that the OVA will be released in a fifth Steelbook. They could include the Eizou Hakusho/Movie bundle that came out in 2011.

Thanks for posting this! My local Best Buy had two steels left and the second one wasn't in good shape. I open it to make sure the discs and digital copy are there (even though I think I have seasons 1 and 2 on Prime) and I noticed the discs said episodes 1-22 and not 1-28.

So I'm back from work and here's a comprehensive look at things. Also some things to note, the art cards won't fit (you could try, but you could then make the hubs dig into them like the FUNimation Digital Copy insert). This will fit into a SteelBook Central SC3 sealed, so it will also fit unsealed with the J-card and the envelope. Also I like that the J-card is on cardstock this time rather than thin paper like Akira, Code Geass, Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie were, I keep all my info sheets and J-cards. Also an unfortunate thing is the glue on the envelope might have ripped part of the back art off as I have this. Wish SteelBooks in general didn't have glue, you don't need them to keep J-cards on, the shrinkwrap will do that instead. Lastly, the inside is NOT blank, there is something there. A blank SteelBook looks like this. It's very hard to make out, but if you look very closely, there's some sort of pattern or something on there. I'd have preferred for some actual art, but at least something is there.

I just really have to wonder how this happened, the mislabeling of the disc art. They've been using this same style of disc art since the complete DVD sets. Here's Season 1 (the only one I currently have, I intend to get the rest someday for collecting purposes). This also doesn't seem to be very cost effective, making only one new disc for a 17 minute special feature, and it's on a Blu-ray, not a DVD, so it costs much more to press.




Also something to note, because FUNimation didn't make new discs, and this is from a 2011 release (5/31/2011 to be exact), the subtitles have issues. Up until late 2012, FUNimation had this style of subtitles for their Blu-rays (their DVDs have used the same style forever, even today-if they're not broke, don't fix them, they're fine), and people complained that they were hard to read in certain scenes (especially ones with white backgrounds), which prompted them to change them to the ones we have now, which are much, much more legible.

Something else I just noticed now, the disc count on the disc art matches what's listed on the cases for the DVDs. Also the Anime Classics Blu-rays didn't have the episode count on the discs looking at an unboxing. Still though, just how did this happen? I've never seen this mistake before.

The inside art almost appears to be some sort of kanji but it is hard to make out. Not sure how the heck it specifically relates to YYH either.

Yeah, at first I thought it was maybe saying "YuYu Hakusho", the JP title is supposed to be "幽☆遊☆白書". At least it's not blank, though they could have done something better. Even the DVDs have something better.

Well, after reading about this, I can say I’m very disappointed. My first season set has already been shipped so I can’t cancel it. I paid for the whole thing with amazon prime points so I guess it’s not that bad. I’m going to just swap out the discs with my set and keep them in the steelbook. I already own the previous 4 Blu-ray volumes. I went ahead and canceled my preorder of the second steelbook though. If the discs are the exact same, then screw it. Shame it’s turning out this way, Yu Yu Hakusho deserves much better.

Funi did a similar thing with the "Cowboy Bebop" box set where the sixth disc was just an interview instead of it being a re-encode of the series.

I've still got my copies of the initial Blu-ray release and am considering holding onto them after this, unless it gets corrected. I was also thinking about swapping the discs as you mentioned, but if I sell my standard copies then I'm not sure if that would turn away potential buyers.

Yeah sounds good too me. Even if the discs get corrected, the new special features sounds like something I’d never watch lol. I was mainly interested in the steelbooks, but if the discs are the exact same as the ones I have now and have screwed up labels....no thanks FUNI. Need to get your shit together.

I was a bit excited by the idea that these would be new discs, but I guess I'm picking it up anyhow. It just happens that this release is cheaper on amazon.ca than the individual Anime Classics, and I've been wanting to pick this series up anyway, so if it's the same discs I'll deal. But honestly, how unfortunate. Funimation is a sad sad company. Where is their quality control?
