Gosh with this news, should I sell my Geneon thinpak boxsets of S and SuperS :S Grew up with the the Dic dub of the first 2 seasons but kinda lost interest when they started S and SuperS. Watched them and own the sets but I really hated the changed dub going from seasons 1 and 2 to S and SuperS. Will for sure hold onto the Dic singles but I may just part ways with the Geneon sets.

From the stream of the announcement, the first Blu-ray/DVD Limited Edition will be released in the Fall will be in this format: Seasons One Part 1 (Episodes 1-23).

Sailor Moon (Season 1) - Edited dub (volumes), uncut sub (boxset)
Sailor Moon R (Season 2) - Edited dub (volumes), uncut sub (boxset)
Sailor Moon S (Season 3) - Uncut English & Japanese audio with subtitles (volumes and boxset)
Sailor Moon SuperS (Season 4) - Uncut English & Japanese audio with subtitles (volumes and boxset)
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (Season 5) - Never released in the US
Sailor Moon Specials - Never released in the US
Sailor Moon Movies - Uncut English & Japanese audio with subtitles (individual and boxset)
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon - Never released in the US

Note: The dub for the first 2 seasons was edited for content, a few episodes were skipped / not released, several character names were changed, music was replaced, etc. Until the upcoming VIZ Media release, Sailor Stars and the specials have never been released in the US in dubbed or subtitled form at all. PGSM has also never been released either.

I really hope this gets a similar treatment as Ranma 1/2 has been getting with their Blu-ray releases. Viz Media's new limited editions are awesome, and I would pre-order Sailor Moon on Blu-ray the day it goes up on RightStuf!

For me, I'm just happy the sub will be on blu-ray. I usually don't buy anime blus because I never watch the dubs, and don't feel like spending a lot of money just for the subs, but for Sailor Moon, I'll gladly part with my money.

You don't spend money "just for subs" you spend it on quality content. I suppose that means you wouldn't spend money on any of the great Yasujirō Ozu or Akira Kurosawa films either? I guess that also means you don't like any of the great German, French, and Italian films either?

not cool Toei, you just did the same with the frickin Galaxy Express 999 Blu boxes. This is not how you treat cel animation.
If that screenshot is accurate then I'm out. This will end up being pretty expensive all up, and I'm not paying crap for non HD material.

yeah, the trailer looks pretty bad, let's hope it's not what will be on the disc.

Would they have the nerve to pull something like that with Sailor Moon?

I honestly don't think they care anymore, so I certainly won't put it past them. Far easier and economical to upscale via Q-tech post processing than a legitimate restoration. Plus they are on a roll as of late. Galaxy Express 999 TV series & movies, Slam Dunk, Saint Seiya (though Bandai is the distributor on this one), and now potentially Sailor Moon.
Its infuriating knowing that these shows don't look the best that they can because of inane practices such as these.

There is only one smiley suited for this situation ->

According to VIZ, they're using the Japanese remasters, and being very careful with releasing the series and doing the new dub.

Obviously want the best outcome, but whatever they release should at least look better than all of the previous US DVD releases.

The 2nd one is in response to someone asking about a potential dub stream on Hulu.

Given how Viz handled the Ranma 1/2 Blu-ray, I don't have any apprehensions for the Sailor Moon. They'll be showing the Blu-ray at Anime Expo.
