If I were WB, I'd have put The Batman out May 2016, and Man of Steel 2 out July 2016. Then Batman vs. Superman later on. Then Justice League. Then go for Wonder Woman, Flash/Green Lantern, etc.
I think it would have been cool to see Affleck in a solo Batman film to (re)introduce Batman. Have it be a mixture between Batman Begins and The Town. A gritty crime drama/mystery where Batman - a seasoned veteran - goes up against one villain; maybe the Riddler. We wouldn't need to go over the backstory again -- this Batman is a pro who has been at it for a long time... for too long. And it serves to set up and introduce Affleck as the Batman of this universe. This way, the audience can meet him and get to know him in this film, so we can focus on the team up in Batman vs. Superman. You could even have a credits scene where we see Bruce in the batcave in front of a screen -- with Superman on it. Next up would be MOS2 so we could spend some more time with Clark and expand his world. Then bring Batman and Superman together in the Batman vs. Superman movie - they're both already established, just like how The Avengers got all of the establishing and whatnot out of the way in their solo films, putting the emphasis solely on the team-up. My DCU would be: Man of Steel The Batman Man of Steel 2 Batman vs. Superman The Justice League Etc. |

Was the Batman in the Lego Movie awesome because he apppeared in other solo Batman lego movies? No, so once again, enough with these goddamn "introduction, let-me-warm-you-up-to-a-new-superhero solo movies". Just because Marvel does it, it's not some perfect superhero movie-making template.

Like I said before, DC is in a no-win situation. If they use Marvel's formula, they are copycats. If they don't, it's a disaster. DC is trying to establish they're own way of doing this. It's just a matter of time if they will be successful or not.
Regardless, I'm still glad that DC Universe is being established at this point. |

Part of the appeal of a crossover, though, is seeing these guys in their own, solo adventures and then seeing them come together. If Captain America made his first appearance in Iron Man 2, would it still have been cool to see him alongside Iron Man? Hell, yes. It's just better when we get to follow these guys alone for two hours and then seeing them meet up with other heroes who have also had their own adventures. I'm not as invested in DC as I am Marvel, so I don't care what "formula" they use. On the DC side I care most about Batman and Superman so I wanted more solo outings out of them first. ETA: I wanted a solo Affleck Batman outing not just to set up the character and let him do his thing before he teams up with the big guys, but also because I didn't want to wait almost a decade for another solo Batman movie. My honest opinion, WB really should have establish their DC Cinematic Universe a long time ago, WB's only interests were in Superman and mostly Batman, because of the success with the Nolan movies and the irritating thing is that they never any real issue with the movie rights. They could have made a solo Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, or Captain Marvel movie by now, and the properties they have made, besides their two golden boys, have all reek of studio inference. Hypothetically speaking there could have an established DC Cinematic Universe with a Justice League rounding it out now, instead they make excuse after excuse; "oh, plans fell through, or we haven't found the right script yet, or it's daylight saving time, or LeBron got a leg cramp, or I can't believe it's not butter". Big Studios have no problem with turning out crap, and the real reason that we haven't seen these movies yet is that WB have no faith in a solo Wonder Woman movie, or a Flash or Aquaman movie, they could have an amazing script and the right director for one of these DC character, but if wasn't Batman or Superman at the time, they weren't interested, simply as that. The success of The Avengers was what really open their eyes...partially, WB want to see that kind of success without building it. Here the funny thing, before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most people could give two sh*ts about Iron Man, or Thor, and any attempts to make a Captain America movie failed miserably, now these three are major headliners with individual franchises under their belts. Believe me, I'm a DC and Marvel guy, and definitely not a militant fanboy of either. My feelings toward the current direction of DCU is that they misguided, and the only hope is that they get the right talents behind the camera, but I'm very skeptical.

Marvel people coming in just to post laugh emoticons?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: DC needs to make a Deathstroke movie. I'd kill to see that. Pun definitely intended. Also, the Shazam movie could be awesome if done right. |

Had Green Lantern been successful, that would have been the starting point. It was not received well, so they had to figure out where to go from there. So Man of Steel could have wound up with a similar situation had it done poorly too.
They weren't able to launch a shared universe from the Dark Knight due to an agreement with Chris Nolan. |

I'm more a Batman fan than anything when it comes to Comic Book movies-- Superman is ok when done well. and I frankly don't care at all for the other DC characters, and Marvel's are meh to me outside of Spider-Man, so I'm curious to see how Batman v. Superman will play out in 2016 for Warner Brothers.
