They did pretty good with Innocence. They were even in contact with the dubbing studio about doing a new lossless mix from the original stems. At the very least, a release from them would have none of those bizarre audio glitches, proper subtitles, and chapter stops. FUNi isn't the most fan friendly company, but they have higher standards than Anchor Bay and Lionsgate, who don't deal much with anime, and don't care about the fans at all.

I should've emphasized time a bit more than money. Also I think I now understand why the only decent encode of this I could find way back when was VFR - the encoder must've thrown their hands up in frustration and just let the IVTC script spit out a deduped/VFR MKV...

Just the U.S. version is cursed. The Japanese and Korean releases are fine. The U.K. version is mostly fine too and is the cheapest option for now.

The screenshots I posted of the Telecine mess are of the JP BD. The master is cursed in its own right.

i noticed that amz has individual releases for seasons 1&2. is there a region-free or Region A set of both?

i MAY have a region-free player now (hacked ps3), but I'm not sure if there'sa r eason to go with the region B box set

Yes as Manga Entertainment (owned by Starz which is now owned by Lionsgate) perpetually owns the license as they were on the production committee for it.

Note this is only for the US/Canada. In the UK, the rights are perpetually owned by Manga Entertainment UK, which is now Funimation UK

Manga Entertainment Ltd. (UK) changed their name to "Crunchyroll Manga Ltd." in March 2022, and in July 2022 to "Crunchyroll Ltd."

Whilest their products got advertised by Funimation Blog and/or Funimation UK social media accounts for some time, they were owned by Sony and not "Funimation UK".

As I only have the compilation versions of the two seasons of SAC, I've been considering starting to pick up the single discs I see all the time at the used disc shops. Are there any issues with any of the specific singles that I should watch out for?

I think only issue with the singles is that Vol. 2 accidentally printed the Special Edition DTS disc on to what's supposed to be the Dolby Digital version of the regular edition. It's not a huge deal though. That's the only issue I can think of at least.
