Yeah, it did well internationally and worldwide total, but I don't think WB is happy with those US numbers, as it's a step-down from what the first made in total.

At this point I’m not even excited for this movie. But maybe it will change the course and be much better than The Crimes of Grindelwald. All it needs is a plot.

I'll be shocked if this one ends up being better that COG. Hopefully, the push back will actually allow the script to be better, and JK to have assistance.

I'd imagine they'll do three, with the potential for one or two more left up in the air depending on box office results. I definitely think they'll be re-working three, and that'll contribute to the delay. They should try a spring 2021 release, around march, as well. See if that helps any.

True, but it's still down considerably from the first, and I think WB is more concerned that the downward spiral will continue with the following installments, especially considering the mixed reaction Grindelwald received. FB2 may be profitable, but if they don't course-correct then FB3 could be a flop.

Don't get me wrong. Creatively they absolutely should stop with 3, and they very well might. I am just saying as long as there is still profit to be made, they will churn them out.

I am personally of the opinion that the first one never needed to be made. And certainly didn't need a whole series, especially not FIVE.
But I saw the first one, it was forgettable but harmless. Then I saw the second one and was so bored and uninterested that I don't even think I will see the rest in theaters, if at all.

Like most stage productions, they want to let it rake in the money there exclusively for a few years before adapting it to a film. Once a film is made, people are less likely to drop $100 for a theatre ticket.

They will likely make it eventually. With the returning film cast? Hard to say. Much was made about the casting of an African-American Hermione, and if they switched back people would scream racism.

Yeah I'm done with the Fantastic Beast movies. Hated the first one and didn't care for the second, I'm out. I'll stick to rewatching the Harry Potter movies once a year and pretending that FB doesn't exist.

Have you seen it?

If you just read it, yeah it is very mediocre, but it's very theatrical and performed on stage (how it's naturally meant to be experienced) it works great. Similar to how some great movies have less than amazing screenplays- it really is a template and as long as it serves its function there is so much more in what goes into a movie.

I don't really care how pretty it is. It's still telling the same story. The one that I hate, and the one that craps all over the characterization that was achieved in the original novels. No amount of pretty special effects wipes away the fact that we're still seeing Voldemorts daughter, or any number of other stupid plot lines.

I wouldn't mind a new director, it's really the script that's the issue.

Yates is a major part of it. He deleted a crap ton of scenes they shot for Beasts 2 that, while they wouldn't have made it great, they sure would have added a lot more context and clarity.
