I'd love if they did this for the Red Jacket series of Lupin III because I've read the VAP Blu Rays are a fairly bad upscale. I might pick this up because 3 Blu Ray discs over like 24 DVD discs is a life saver.

I have the complete dvd collection. Would it be worth my while to pick this up or not? I would if the PQ was an improvement, even slightly as I love this show. Is 3 BDs enough for all these episodes? I'm assuming BD50s.

I don't know about Toei's business. But thinking of them makes me a little sad we may never get improved Sentai footage for Power Rangers, crazy difficult as that is. Waaaay too many seasons to redo all its international edits.

I think what they meant was that Toei have had a track record of poorly archiving their shows and some of their Blu Ray releases of their shows (Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya, Cyborg 009 '78) have been poor upscales. Also poor Japanese audio on virtually every release of Dragon Ball, Z and GT due to them alledgely throwing out master reels of the audio.

Which is the right one? Because SD 23.98p (real) is not allowed on bluray, while 29.97i with 3:2 pulldown is.
The first case can explain the judder, but if the latter, then there should be something wrong somewhere.
Guess will wait the final product in stores to get the clue.

Also, I'm not familiar with pulldown- I know it's on BDs like GITS Stand Alone Complex and the UK Cowboy Bebop, but I don't understand the principle of it.

GITS SAC and UK Bebop have hardcoded pulldown, meaning they are a true interlaced stream with 59.94 fields/second, but you can also have soft-coded pulldown and the advantage of it is that you encode the file as a real 23.98p (progressive encode and bitrate spread across 23.98 images/second) while playback is 59.94i (the stream tells the player when and how repeat the fields).

The Japanese BDs have Losless audio in multiple formats. LPCM Mono sounds like the best choice, but the surprising 5.1 mixes could be cool.

Are you sure it’s an Upscale? By the desicription it sounds like it’s a real HD scan. Description on the Amazon page of the BD Box 1, I mean.

I've seen (what few) on other forums that people have said it is upscales for at least the Red Jacket series. The HD scan is a stretch as going by release dates these were probably some of the earliest "vintage" anime titles on the market and that Blu Ray IS suppose to be "HD" (I mean in '08 or '09 nobody's gonna want to buy a 480i Blu Ray). The VAP Lupin stuff is pretty shoddy too, I saw caps for an '08 Cagliostro Blu and it looks like garbage. The Green Jacket show has a frozen grain problem.

I don't know what TMS (or VAP) used for resources on the recent Pink Jacket series that came out earlier this year. I know that Mamo recently got a 4K remaster (which I hope will be dropped Stateside at least by next year.)

Interestingly, said release has a lossless 5.1 mix (actually 2- DTS and TrueHD versions) compared to the Dolby Digital on every other release. That’s nice, but it’s an up mix. It would be nice to have it on the Ghibli and Discotek releases.

Ooohhh for such a high content per disc (seriously, I thought Mill Creek where bonkers for putting 4 Gamera movies onto one disc!) those screenshots look surprisingly lush for SD.

I presume for a Diskotek title, it's gonna be region A locked though sadly. Bugger.
