‘Black Panther 2′ Already Has a “Solid Direction” Says Kevin Feige
BY MATT GOLDBERG - MARCH 9, 2018

Even if it didn’t stand a chance of being the biggest film at the 2018 box office, Black Panther would probably get a sequel. But since the film is creeping towards a billion worldwide, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has no hesitation acknowledging that there will be a Black Panther 2, and that they’re already kicking around ideas for what it could be.

Speaking to EW about the future of Marvel Studios, Feige says that, as usual when they’re working on a movies, ideas start formulating about the next chapter:
Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.
Note that co-writer/director Ryan Coogler hasn’t officially signed on to direct the sequel, which will be interesting to see if his idea for a sequel is in line with what Marvel wants (or if that “solid direction” is something Coogler himself provided in developing the first movie). Presumably, Coogler, should he return, would be given more freedom in the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 has even more of James Gunn’s personality than the raucous first film.

As for where the sequel could go, we don’t know how things will change post-Infinity War. In the interview, Feige says Wakanda will be an “anchor point” similar to Asgard, and I think fans would be pretty bummed if Wakanda got totally destroyed. “Wakanda for a Few Months,” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as “Wakanda Forever.” Personally, I’m interesting to see more of the political side of Black Panther, especially as T’Challa has to wrestle with what it means to open your borders.

Black Panther will next be seen in Avengers: Infinity War, which opens April 27th.

It's amazing to just imagine a Black Panther 2 when years ago, the world hardly expected a standalone to ever get made. Kudos to Disney, Marvel, Ryan Coogler, and the whole cast/crew for making this possible.

PLEASE let Coogler come back for this. I'm already a little apprehensive for Creed 2 without him being aboard, and it's obvious that B. Jordan won't be back (a shame, but understandable)...but PLEASE let Coogler return to continue to give a voice/direction to Boseman's T'Challa.

If Coogler comes back, I can already see him throwing in more political statements into the sequel

I'd imagine he would be up for it. Cuz... Marvel loves it when a director makes them a lot of money. So sequels with insanely good freshman success... usually keep the director.

While I could never imagine who would be right for BP as a director, I was pleased by Coogler being it, along with MBJ joining along too. Cuz the dude has talent. Saying that, I hope he grows from his failures in the first one. The thing that sticks out to me quickly? The fights. They were very weak. The chase scene was cool but the fight cinematography was all over the place. It really showed how maybe Coogler didn't know how to stage it for something as big as this.

BP was a good place to flex what muscles he never could. Now... I hope he works on it to better it. I liked BP but I thought it was pretty average in execution in his direction and some of the writing.

Ryan Coogler Returning To Direct ‘Black Panther’ Sequel
By Amanda N'Duka - October 11, 2018 2:12pm

Ryan Coogler will return to pen and direct the sequel to Black Panther, the Disney/Marvel blockbuster which has grossed $1.35 billion at the box office

The success made a follow-up movie a given; Marvel usually signs its key cast to deals involving multiple movies because of the scope of its cinematic universe. Chadwick Boseman starred in the first pic along with Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Latitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Forest Whitaker, and Sterling K. Brown

The film, which opened February 16, was a cultural phenomenon and set box office records by earning $242.1M over President’s Day weekend, including a Friday–Sunday gross of $202M, followed by one of the biggest second weekends in history with $111.7M (ranking as the third-biggest second frame ever behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War).

Its global cume ranks as the second-biggest film so far this year, trailing only Avengers: Infinity War. A Black Panther 2 release date has yet to be announced.

Coogler has largely kept out of the spotlight since the film’s release. However, news recently broke that he would serve as an executive producer on the upcoming Space Jam sequel starring Lebron James. He also holds an EP credit on Creed 2, which Warner Bros’ will release in November.
