I've been emailing the Criterion suggestion for Satoshi Kon films ATLEAST once every 4 months. I would probably cry tears of joy if they ever announced it. I'm still hoping.
Kon is right up there with Miyazaki and Kurosawa as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of Japan.
A box set or seperate I don't care just
ANYTHING.
All (especially Perfect Blue) are my #1 request for Criterion

But if that's too much to ask, A regular blu ray would be great too. I don't know who would exactly though...

TBH Perfect Blue would be a nice candidate for Criterion's next anime acquisition. Maybe they'll get Akira back someday too, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Maybe for you personally but Kon's 4 films over the last 21 years isn't even in the same ballpark as Kurosawa's global influence directing ~33 fims and writing more than double that (some of which are considered amoung the greatest films ever made) over the last 75 years.

Kon was a great anime director who died much too early, but comparing him to Kurosawa is kinda ridiculous. I think Makoto Shinkai and Mamoru Hosoda are promising directors though, if they eventually dare to venture out of anime territory.

It's not ridiculous to call him one of the best, but I think people are questioning most influential. Which leaves a heck of a lot of room for contest I reckon.

It doesn’t really make sense but I’ve thought about what would be the greatest box set for me ever, and I think it would be a complete series and film release of Evangelion by the criterion collection. It seems prestigious enough to me but I know the markets don’t really mesh at all and they would never want to deal with getting those rights for something most of their audience wouldn’t be that interested in.

Yeah that was my mistake, should have read through better. There's no denying Kurosawa is way more influential.
