Default Escape from Absalom / No Escape (1994)

Umbrella has announced on their Facebook page that they will release the Ray Liotta movie "Escape from Absalom" / "No Escape" on Blu-ray on 4. July 2018.

I have got confirmation from Umbrella that it will be released in its OAR 2.35:1

From the Umbrella Facebook page:

In the year 2022, society has created the ultimate prison - ABSOLOM, a remote jungle island where you're abandoned and left to the mercy of the other inmates. Sentenced to life for murdering his commanding officer, Marine Captain John Robbins (Ray Liotta) has been banished to the island prison. There he finds himself in the middle of a bloody battle between the Outsiders, led by the brutal Marek (Stuart Wilson, Hot Fuzz) and the Insiders, led by the benevolent Father (Lance Henriksen). Robbins wants nothing of their fight and only one thing - to escape!
ESCAPE FROM ABSOLOM (AKA No Escape) hits Blu-ray for the first time worldwide July 4. Stay tuned for further announcements regarding final artwork and special features!

ESCAPE FROM ABSOLOM (1994) was filmed in far North Queensland, where many European backpacker's from local hostel's were hired as some of the over 400 extras to play Outsiders.
Coming soon to BEYOND GENRES: WORLDS ON FILM!

I remember renting this from the video store one summer day, not having any expectations for it, and then being pleasantly surprised. Great sci-fi-ish prison camp film. Been wanting this on Blu for a long time. HBO must have lost rights? I seem to remember this being an HBO film.

Prefer the original No Escape title.

But I'll take what I can get.

My HBO DVD is in desperate need of an upgrade.

It's always been Escape From Absolom here.

Plus there's that recent No Escape with Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson, so I imagine they'll be wanting to avoid any confusion.

I love this movie. I thought the villain (Merric) was hilarious. Been wanting a blu ray for a while. I'm interested to know and see if there were any deleted scenes. The film was decently long about 2 hours but it seems like there were some stuff cut out. Anyway hope it's a great release with loads of features.

Here in the States it was always No Escape.

Absolon was the name of the prison Island for those who don't know.

Yeah, it was called that (or variant of) in most international territories.

In the US and UK it was No Escape.

Read somewhere that the shooting title was The Penal Colony.

No evidence to suggest that.

Different rights holders for domestic and international.

Stuart Wilson is the highlight of the show, he had charm and charisma. he was also in Hot Fuzz.

Umbrella usually is, especially with discs where no other version exists.
