I don't hate it, it has its moments. But it's a far cry from the quality of the other three.

Holy budget cuts, Batman!

This looks like a direct to TV movie. How the mighty have fallen.

Could be fun, really looks lower budget however, almost like it was made 15 years ago.

Can't tell if it's a smaller budget or a stylistic choice. Definitely getting shades of Disney Animation (the humans look like they're out of a Disney movie) and Into the Spiderverse (the sort of jittery action scenes and bright, vibrant colors). Definitely seems like they're trying to emulate other visual styles instead of continuing with their established one. Looks cute, though. I've always liked Puss in Boots. Not gonna rush out to see it, but I'll probably check it out.

I don't think it looks "low-budget" so much as distinctly stylized, almost like Into The Spider-Verse. It definitely looks a lot different than the first, but hey...it's only been ELEVEN YEARS.

This is being done by the exact same creative team behind "Croods: A New Age", which had a much cheaper budget than most other recent DreamWorks films at $65 million (compared to Boss Baby 2 at $80 million and Trolls World Tour at $100 million)

I'm willing to bet the latter.

Definitely stylistic choice... that all looks to be mainly from the 'beginning' of the movie, perhaps mainly an intro (Puss, died, on last life, let's see what happens.) The rest of the movie will probably carry the tone/visual seen later with the 'cute eyes' scene.

Considering how radically different the visual aesthetic is in this movie, it makes me wonder if this really does take place in the same universe as the first movie and the Shrek movies. The Big Bad Wolf's design springs to mind. He now has red eyes and has ditched the pink pajamas and nightcap.

I think they're trying to make these films their own thing compared to the Shrek films

Maybe it's like a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen thing (the comics, not the movie) where multiple versions of different characters exist together in the same universe?

Yeah just saw the trailer today and I agree. I defnitely saw some experimentation with lower frame rates on the giant much like Into The Spider-Verse.

I dig the style overall, doesn't look super cheap as some say. 11 years for a sequel? Avatar 2 if it releases this year will be 12 years. Blade Runner 2049 took even longer.
