Can't tell if it's a smaller budget or a stylistic choice. Definitely getting shades of Disney Animation (the humans look like they're out of a Disney movie) and Into the Spiderverse (the sort of jittery action scenes and bright, vibrant colors). Definitely seems like they're trying to emulate other visual styles instead of continuing with their established one. Looks cute, though. I've always liked Puss in Boots. Not gonna rush out to see it, but I'll probably check it out.

This is being done by the exact same creative team behind "Croods: A New Age", which had a much cheaper budget than most other recent DreamWorks films at $65 million (compared to Boss Baby 2 at $80 million and Trolls World Tour at $100 million)

Definitely stylistic choice... that all looks to be mainly from the 'beginning' of the movie, perhaps mainly an intro (Puss, died, on last life, let's see what happens.) The rest of the movie will probably carry the tone/visual seen later with the 'cute eyes' scene.

Considering how radically different the visual aesthetic is in this movie, it makes me wonder if this really does take place in the same universe as the first movie and the Shrek movies. The Big Bad Wolf's design springs to mind. He now has red eyes and has ditched the pink pajamas and nightcap.

I dig the style overall, doesn't look super cheap as some say. 11 years for a sequel? Avatar 2 if it releases this year will be 12 years. Blade Runner 2049 took even longer. ![]() |
