Remember how good Minions 2 did compared to Lightyear? When it comes to animated films aimed at kids, the more unpretentiously silly, the better for the box office. And there'll be a lot of spillover audiences that can't get into Avatar that will settle for Puss, especially ones with fidgety kids that can't sit through a 190-minute movie.

Unfortunately, Antonio Banderas' days as a leading man are long gone. Plus, kids today weren't born for the first one so they don't have much attachment to this.

Yeah, I saw it with the Saturday early access showing and it’s a fun movie. Surprising amount of dark humor, and I’m guessing a bit cheaper to make than the original film, as it goes for a more stylized animation look (seems like they lowered the framerate in some action scenes for artistic reasons, like Into the Spider-Verse’s animation).

Also feels more tied into the Shrek universe than the first film, with

[Show spoiler]cameos by Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio, and a credits scene that seems to directly set up Shrek 5

Shrek 5 has been sitting in Universal's archives for multiple years, with Universal's other franchises, I am not expecting another Shrek/Puss In Boots movie for a while.

Saw an early screening as well. We just watched the first one (a couple of times) when we stumbled onto the early screening. I was just looking at my AMC app and saw that it was showing. Both kids loved it, and I thought it was lots of fun. Overall, I would say this is a worthy sequel. Cool characters, fun movie, a different animation style compared to the first, and there will be plenty of eye candy when this (hopefully) gets released on 4k. I definitely recommend this.

The HR manager at my office consulted with me about doing a private screening for the employees and their families. I suggested to her to do a screening of Puss in Boots, but she decided to go with Strange World instead

Or a 32 year old man who really has to walk a bit after 2 hours (long legs, little leg-room in our cinema) Really want to see the new Avatar, but gonna save that for a home viewing I guess, no cinemas here who show it with a break in between. Puss in Boots is more tempting
