MR. MERCEDES: Season 1 Blu-ray (Australian Exclusive)
As of this writing, Australia is the only country in the world offering a Blu-ray release of Stephen King’s MR. MERCEDES: Season 1, courtesy of Sony Home Entertainment. It is a two-disc set (no DVDs or digital codes). It offers English Master Audio in 5.1 and 2.0 stereo options, and well as English subtitles. There is not a single, solitary bonus feature, just the episodes. Image quality looks solid, if not perfect (I noticed mild compression artifacting in shots with fog or out-of-focus backgrounds). As someone who does not subscribe to DirecTV, this release is a godsend on which I’d very nearly given up.

Wow, great catch, Filmmaker! I also wanted to see this, but I waited patiently for a Blu-ray. Strange that it's only from Sony Australia but not available at many online shops outside of Amazon.com.au...it makes me wonder if it was some kind of mistake release, or unadvertised Amazon exclusive.
Be that as it may, for those in the US, copies are currently available for US $19.99 and Fulfilled by Amazon at Amazon.com here, although I or someone else will need to confirm it plays in Region A players. |

JB HiFi has it as DVD only, but it’s great news it is available on Amazon AU. Will wait to see if Sony will be doing a second season, since I am not going to start collecting this on BD to watch in the future if it goes DVD only from S2, despite being an avid Stephen King fan.
There have been a couple of bones TV on BD’s are popping up here in Australia only. Future Man is a good example AND at least a Season Two is on the way. While the lossless Dolby track sounds great and the PQ is very good, they f*cked up big time by not releasing Future Man in it’s OAR (2.35:1). 1.78:1 makes the show looked cramped by comparison. |

Each disc has an Australian anti-piracy advert before the menu, but other than that, there is nothing else except the episodes. I can only assume this being a Sony Australia release is the reason why the set is only two discs when it has 527 minutes of main content (most Sony releases would go to three discs for such a release) and why there are both 5.1 and 2.0 audio tracks when Sony usually never offers the latter for native 5.1 TV releases.
I've watched two episodes so far, and generally, the video quality is very good and on par with other Sony releases, except for a bit of banding that I've noticed, and less of the three-dimensional color depth I have seen on other Sony TV releases (I notice this release lacks the Sony SBMV logo, so perhaps the Super Bit Mapping process wasn't applied to this Blu-ray.). If Sony doesn't indulge internationally, and I don't think they will, then hopefully Sony Australia will persevere with releasing future seasons in Australia. It's very strange that this first season release is only being sold in such a limited fashion, however. |

If they do a release of Season 2, it probably won't be until next April, similar to Season 1 (the USA DVD was in August 2018, this Blu-ray was April 2019. Season 2 just got its USA DVD this August). Here's hoping they keep releasing the show.

I just finished watching season 1 Blu-ray. So much wanting to watch season 2 but I will not succumb to buying the DVD. I will wait for the Blu-ray edition. If they follow the same release schedule that was done on season 1, I'm hopeful for season 2 Blu-ray in the spring of next year

I noticed that the Blu-ray of season one of this is being sold on kicks.com.au:
https://www.kicks.com.au/product/mr_...ason_1_blu_ray I wonder how long it's been on their website, has anyone noticed it on kicks before? It's currently more expensive than DVDshop on Amazon au, but it might drop lower on kicks at some point, so those that are interested might want to keep an eye on it. It would be interesting to know whether there is a limit on Random Space Media's exclusivity. Perhaps eventually we will see the other seasons of Mr. Mercedes on Blu-ray, as well as the Blu-ray's of Cobra Kai, on kicks.com.au too. Or Maybe it's on Universal Sony's Kicks website because they are wanting to clear stock, and it will soon be out of print
