Got the first 5 seasons in their slipbox DVD releases, the 3 uncut DVDs, PoL and DSoD BDs, and a few of the Japanese DVD releases for collectable flavor. I may not have continued past DM, but I feel bad for how janky the DVD situation is for those who did. Condolences. I kinda wish there was a DVD release for the Crunchyroll-subbed version, even if it is already digitally available, though that's probably never going to happen. It'd be the closest to finishing the business of the "uncut" DVDs, minus the actual uncut dub part.

I'm kind of in disbelief at how terrible the VRains dub is. This is my first time hearing it and wow is it bad. The editing/censorship of love doesn't surprise me, it's that atrocious casting and acting at 2:58 and 3:50 that I can't believe. A "meat bag"? Wtf even is this?

"Meat bag" is a recurring joke, a name that Ai would frequently call Yusaku. Not to different from how dub Joey liked to call Kaiba "rich boy" and how dub Crowler liked to call Jaden "Slifer slacker". After a while, it was pretty clear that when Ai and Yusaku would have their inevitable farewell, the joke would have it's payoff.

As Yugioh Everything says in the video, it's really not that surprising to see changes like these made to the dub since they have always been done that way. That said, the changes made here are far from the most egregious in the dub's history. Unfortunate yes, but does anyone genuinely expect a faithful adaption in YGO anymore? That dream died along with the uncut dub a long time ago.

Maybe I'm just that out of touch with what's going on in Yu-Gi-Oh dubs these days. I guess I'm able to look beyond that type of cringey/kiddy humor in Duel Monsters because of nostalgia. Regardless, both characters sound extremely miscast or the voice actors are half-assing it.

To be Frank the Yu-Gi-Oh anime is pretty abysmal when compared to the manga which is just amazing even today. The dungeon dice monsters arc for example is infinitely better and gives Ryuji Otogi real depth and character as opposed to splitting everything it did into three separate meaningless arcs and making him a generic evil bastard.

So the dub kept that character dying right? They added the humor to tone the scene done obviously. 4kids did that in many of there shows.

Well, FUNimation got 3 uncut DVDs with the Japanese audio out back in 2004/2005, but yeah, it's a bit surprising subbed Yu-Gi-Oh! still hasn't happened. Then you also have GX and 5D's remaining incomplete on home video.

It's a 224 episode series promoted to young children in the west without a complete uncut dub. Even if Johnny's hadn't complicated the international rights, it's not the kind of show that would get a sub set. The subtitled streams are out of the norm for those kinds of shows.

I guess since the subs do exist, it's not outlandish to think someone could slap those on discs. The question is whether or not the distributors for Yu-Gi-Oh! home video think that would do enough to be worth their time.

I don’t consider it the most outlandish thing in the world that at the very least the 2000 Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime would be released subbed. After all Kodocha had similar hang ups with Johnny & Associates and we’re getting it from Discotek with the original music fully intact. I believe it’s entirely possible since these days Yu-Gi-Oh! Has more ways to play remotely than any other card game. Duel Links, Link Evolution, we’re getting a new FTP game and Sevens game very soon.

Johnny’s niece is now in charge of the company since Johnny himself died in 2019. So it’s very possible a subbed Yugioh series is…in the cards…

I hope Discotek get the rights to Yu-Gi-Oh. Like Shaman King they'd release the 4Kids dub on SD Blu-Ray, and do a separate release for the Japanese version. We could also see season 0 and the Singapore dub released as an extra audio track.

All of Yu-Gi-Oh! is handled by 4K Media (now Konami Cross Media NY) which is owned by Konami so that's unlikely.

So, I just picked up DSoD, and it has the correct subtitle track. Had no idea they reprinted it to retail with the right subtitles.
