GKIDS just announced this is coming out in 2020 with a new 4K restoration. First Perfect Blue, then Millennium Actress, now this. Good time to be a Satoshi Kon fan.

If it’s DNR’d like the “remasters” of Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress, then no thanks. That said, a North American release is very nice, and although I don’t like dubs, having one gives it more exposure, so that’s good as well.

The new BD is not out, but you can get the current BD version now.

Nice!!! Tokyo Godfathers is a Christmas tradition for me, I've been watching it every Christmas for over a decade.

I have yet to see it, but I am going to watch it this Christmas as I discover about this movie a week ago. I heard it was really good.

The current transfer is pretty terrible, but mostly because of the early digital print-to-film technology used to make the negative. Hoping this will be better. With new digital scanners and color correction, it might at least be less washed out looking. The UHD BD of Ghost in the Shell proves it's possible.

Is the Millennium Actress DNR'd on top of the Japanese master, r are you just eferring to the base DNR'd state that Gkids ported over?

It's hard to imagine this new remaster looking worse than the ridiculously windowboxed and soft-looking JP BD release, but I hope the DNR isn't too destructive.

No- the remaster was DNR’d from the beginning.

Ah, so they'll market it as an acclaimed holiday classic, but are not actually showing it anywhere near that holiday? Figure out the logic there!

Obviously great news for you americans though, probably won't be making it to UK theatres.

Definitely going to try to catch this in theaters. I agree Shingster, would've been nice if they released this during Christmas time.
