Surprised there wasn't a thread already for the upcoming release of the anthology series Ghost Story/Circle of Fear.
If anyone here is getting this release, can you post in this thread please, any comments and observations about the transfers, audio etc. |

I'll be picking it up. I loved the series when it first played on OZ TV back when bell-bottom trousers were all the rage and the Bay City Rollers were topping the charts. It should look great on Blu-ray, seeing it was originally shot on film.

Wow! How did the news of this release escape me? This show is awesome, and while I’m sure I’ve seen almost all the episodes, I would gladly pick it up on blu-ray. Love thriller anthologies from the 70s.

Just ordered this through Via Vision. Can't wait to check it out. Will post a review about image and sound quality once I've watched an episode.

Guess what arrived in the mail today.
The Blu-ray set came in a padded jiffy bag and was bubble-wrapped. When the pic was taken, the set was still in its shrink wrap. ![]() Together for the first time, the slipcase and the Blu-ray case. ![]() You get five discs in a sturdy, sensible case. ![]() This is the menu for Disc 1. I’ve never seen the pilot episode, which is written by no less a scribe than Richard Matheson. Episode 2, “The Concrete Captain”, one of my faves, was written by Hammer stalwart Jimmy Sangster. The special feature is the set’s only one. Doesn’t worry me a bit, considering how great this set is overall. What a galaxy of stars! In disc 1 alone we get, among others, Jason Robards, Stella Stevens, Barbara Parkins, Stuart Whitman, and James Franciscus. ![]() Picture quality is superb, with a light organic sprinkling of film grain and sumptuous colors, especially the lively reds, courtesy of the 35mm film stock. There is the odd fleck and speckle here and there, but nothing that suggests that this isn’t a transfer treated with tender, loving care. Bear in mind that I haven’t seen all the episodes yet and none all the way through. The bitrate, for the smattering of episodes I’ve checked out thus far, gets as high 36 Mbps. Maybe higher. Sound-wise, the harpsichord that accompanies Sebastian Cabot’s commentary at the start of most episodes has never sounded as clear and delicate. Obviously, the audio isn’t state of the art, but it’s more than decent. ![]() Last edited by Count Yorga; 07-09-2020 at 07:28 AM. |

Thanks as well, to Count Yorga for an easy to understand description of what they've seen so far of this release. Sounds like the label have done a good job with this TV series. |

I should have pointed out that if the colour seems a little oversaturated in that last pic, the one of Cabot with the cigar, it's because I have my colour set a little higher than most videophiles. He won't look so flushed on your telly.

Just watched the pilot episode in full. There are quite a few impurities that barge onto the video image fairly frequently. Sadly, a less well-known series like this isn't going to get the meticulous clean-up treatment that, say, the original Twilight Zone series has. They didn't bother me all that much because, on the plus side, the vividness of color and the clarity of detail that the transfer offers is excellent, particularly in the scene where Barbara Parkins visits Sam Jaffe, and where she's cleaning up the dishes in her kitchen.
