some information has been brought to light just now. an umbrella blu ray title was made exclusive to another retailer last year.

*update* about 1000 copies were made. it never got released to the public. i managed to buy one from an aussie seller on ebay. now there are 2 sellers who have a few copies. a US seller has a few but does not ship to australia. a UK seller has a few and does ship to australia.

So they are releasing Big Night and since this will be my first Umbrella import, how are their releases? How are the transfers/encodes? Are their discs region-free? Anything I should know or be weary of?

Umbrella's transfers are generally pretty decent but their releases of back-catalogue studio titles are often very basic, with no menu screen, bonus material or even subtitles.

Absence of Malice is good, glad to see it finally released for Region B

Has anyone bought Barton Fink? How does it compare to the Kino?

I received a copy of Barton Fink earlier in the week and transfer is fantastic. However, the release itself is as bare-bones as you can get, which is a shame.

a 2nd release of merry christmas mr lawrence was released 2 years after its first release. however, the difference is that the 2nd release is a special edition with bonus features. i was not aware of this release until last week when a fellow collector brought it to my attention. i have added this title into the database

it does not. i just tried with 5 preorders and was going to be charged just under 12 bucks shipping

I also tried with 100% in-stock items and it still has shipping charges. Not sure what the deal is. Maybe they forgot to take down the banner indicating free shipping.

I have a few Umbrella releases & have been happy with them. I regret missing out on Highlander 3 & Hellraiser 4 though. Sometimes ill go for the Umbrella release over a U.S. release if I like the cover art better like with Man from Hong Kong.
