I thought the trailer with the Leonard Cohen song was so much better than the trailer showing in theaters. I also have the trailer with everything and while I'm glad it's getting a nice push I'm kind of sick of the trailer. Now if it were the better trailer I probably wouldn't be sick of seeing it.

Saw this today, and I thought it was good, but not great. It's a nice mix of a road film, with a coming of age love story, except with cannibals. I just re-watched one of trailers for this, and they really made it look like more of a horror film than it actually is, so anyone looking for a horror film will be disappointed. There are certainly some horrific, and bloody scenes, but they are few and far between.
Chalamet was great as usual, and had really nice on-screen chemistry with Taylor Russell. And holy hell, Mark Rylance plays one of the more unsettling characters I've seen in some time. Rylance's character Sully, with his dead, soulless stares, seriously creeped me out here. André Holland also turns in another solid performance, though we hear him in a recording, more than we see him on screen. I'd say the film's biggest weak point is its pacing. I don't mind a slow-burn kind of film, but this felt much too slow at times, especially the middle where it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere fast. It never took me completely out of the film, and there are some scenes in these parts where they're just driving through the country that I actually loved, but it may test the patience of some viewers. The last act thankfully picks up, culminating with a really intense, and somewhat emotional finale. The Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross score was pretty nice, having some mellow vibes that complimented the somber vibes of the film nicely. My favorite would be a beautiful track played dung the end credits called The Great Wide Open (Reprise). Overall, I would say this didn't completely grab me on my first viewing like Call Me By Your Name, or Suspiria did, but I can see it growing on me with another viewing or two. 3/5 Last edited by MifuneFan; 11-22-2022 at 03:23 PM. |

I didn't expect a cannibal love story to be so moving. This is a beautifully done film. The performances are across the board great. Taylor Russell, Timothée Chalamet and especially Mark Rylance are superb. Rylance's work here is worthy of an Academy award nomination. Given the subject matter of the film he probably won't receive one but it will still be a disappointment if it doesn't happen.
This has some of my favorite cinematography this year. I loved the aesthetic. I loved the music. It blew me away. This is my favorite movie of the year so far and a future American classic. A Last edited by MikeScott; 11-23-2022 at 10:45 AM. |

I welcomed the runtime personally. There was a point where I thought it would probably be over soon and I looked at the time and was relieved there was quite a bit left yet. Maybe it will drag a little on repeat viewings but for the first time I was enthralled. I do plan on seeing this as many times as I can before it's not showing anymore. Or until I run out of friends to drag along with me.

4/5.
The movie only changed a few minor things from the book (usually minor character genders) so I knew everything that was going to happen. Was hoping they’d change it up a little but it’s pretty faithful to the book. I’m mad that my theatre didn’t get this on Tuesday night so I had to wait until last night to see it. And then my theatre puts it on one of my least fave screens where the screen is small and so far away that I couldn’t even tell if [Show spoiler] but thankfully Wikipedia filled me in. That scene in the book was originally with a female and in a playground.

[Show spoiler] The film was well shot and acted but I was hoping for more. I also thought Chloe Sevigny was in a completely wasted roll. |

The movie looks slightly interesting, like why these people are like this, what causes it, what if they don't eat humans, do they suffer a horrible fate? |

Hot take: Mark Rylance is a lousy actor. I know he seems to be loved by many and has won an acting Oscar, I just don't see what others do.
But, after seeing a trio of diverse performances from him this year that left me quite impressed, I think I may have been won over. The Outfit The Phantom Of The Open and now Bones And All I don't dread if I see his name attached to a project anymore. |
