"In partnership with VIZ Media, Crunchyroll is getting ready to bring more hit anime series, including some Crunchyroll Originals, to home video. The latest titles that will be available on Blu-ray and via digital download include BURN THE WITCH, In/Spectre, JUJUTSU KAISEN, The God of High School, and Tower of God.

All of the titles will be available both subtitled and dubbed to fans in the United States and Canada."

I have very mixed opinions on this.

On one hand this breaks titles free from the Funimation empire, which is good for both competition locally and overseas, as this then frees up titles to be licensed by other companies here in the UK for example. On the other hand, Viz's subtitling itself is, in my opinion, worse than Funimation due to shared problem of a lack of typesetting and less legible text due to the smaller border.

There is also the major concern which is video quality, and unfortunately (excluding the titles Justin did for them) Viz don't have the best track record in this regard. First they were encoding for PC RGB levels with trash encoding, then around 2016 they were encoding in the SD colour space but their encoding was much better. Jojo Golden Wind Part 2 finally saw a respectable release from them encoded in the correct colour range and correct RGB levels (albeit not free from issues as their encoder will every so often spit out anything from an average of one to a few frames showing some blocking and worse encoding which also affects prior releases - Potential spoiler warning for second image comparison).

That brings us to now, where a month and a half after Jojo's authoring, someone (who I assume isn't Subatomic due to the disc structure/encoding setup) authored Osomatsu-san - which once again has been encoded for PC RGB levels and thus has heightened gamma. I can't really speak for the encoding of the episodes themselves as Osomatsu-san as a show is both low resolution and incredibly noisy, but the trailers on the discs looked atrocious compared to their Subatomic Digital authored counterparts which causes me a lot of worry for future releases.

Ugh don't care about any of the others but not Jujutsu Kaisen, I'd hate to see it's amazing animation get a crappy transfer. Mappa did an amazing job on this show.

^^ Sadly, 2 Parts + seems to be the norm for all series' titles released lately.

I'm confident Amazon LOVES it this way, as in Canada at least, they carve the price in concrete at $50 Canuck Bucks (or more) for every damn Anime series Part they get.

I'll buy the two parts then sell them for a complete collection set if/when one is released. That's only if I really can't wait for a complete collection to hit first. Like with JJK and Yashahime I'll be suckered into buying the parts.

Lately? It's been the norm for 13 years. FUNimation introduced the "cour/part" set in 2008 with Aquarion and other distributors later followed suit, singles dropped like a rock, including the 5-7 episode single introduced around the same time that lasted until around 2012. Though Sentai Filmworks in late 2016 stopped doing part sets in favor of complete collections, but at their usual complete collection prices which was still cheaper than 2 parts combined. Aniplex USA eventually dropped singles and later the 6/7 episode single in favor of complete/part/cour sets as well.

I’m curious if Viz will actually split Jujutsu Kaisen into two cour. The last time they did that was with Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan - Demon Capital back in 2014.

They split up Sailor Moon: Crystal back in 2016 and 2017. "S1" was 2-cours.

That seems more of a technicality considering Parts 1 and 2 each contain their own arc without interruption.

The animation is insanely good, and pleasently refreshing, since it's a pretty original style.
We now know where they invested all the money. Not much left for Shingeki after that!

It seems like AOT fans are being super overdramatic about the animation of season 4. Like what was the big deal about the way Eren put on his jacket? All I saw for an entire week on Twitter was people crying about that.
