I guess the only thing I'd ask of a future potential 4k release is that it come with an extra space for storing the bluray disc alongside the 4k disc. I completely understand that lots of bluray specific features arent compatible with the 4k format but given that the people likely to buy something like Ako in 4k are the same kind of diehards that likely already have a bluray copy, it would be real nice to also make the packaging work for them too. Having one package to hold both discs would be wonderful.

I know that's a bit of an ask but i hope it's at least considered.

Justin will be able to give an even more detailed answer later, but many of the things Blu-ray can do they didn't carry that over to UHD, like the ability to make slideshows. They had to jump through hoops to get many of the Castle of Cagliostro Blu-ray extras onto UHD because the format wasn't designed to do it.

Wow that’s just very very stupid what genius made that choice with this new format? Because a new format should be adding things not taking them away. Wow the creators of uhd are morons when it comes to this.

There's also things DVD was able to do that didn't carry over to Blu-ray which made making Blu-rays more of a pain in certain ways.

Not many publishers use the slideshow feature apparently, but for us it's invaluable.

Only way to include any SD bonus features is to blow it up to a bobbed 60fps 1080p. Which seems... insane.

Other crazy thing is that, perhaps for piracy reasons, very very few UHD players can play back BD-XL format recordables, which means either the disc has to fit on a standard BD-50, or you're stuck for quality checking. It's either that or PowerDVD. What we had to do with Cagliostro and Robot Carnival was break the disc up into two discs for QC purposes. Absolute nightmare.

One of many reasons very very few UHD discs you see are very ambitious with the authoring and bonus features.

I pre-ordered the A-KO bluray as soon as it became available, fully aware that a 4K version might be available some day in the future. And should that happen I will order that one instantly as well -- with no complaints. I'll be thrilled to have them both.

This is another anime where I wish the voices were consistent in the series like not being able to redub the yu yu hakusho movie.

Never payed attention to the dub differences, always watched in Japanese..first anime I got to see in Japanese in fact.

Same here -- it was my very first Japanese-language anime ever (thanks to the CPM VHS-tape back in 1992), and this is one movie where it's the original language-track for me all the way. I've watched the English dub of the first movie maybe once in its entirety and then snippets here and there over the years, and...yeeaaahh. The Japanese track simply blows the English version away, in terms of the sheer energy-levels of the performances (especially C-Ko). It's like, you watch the English version after seeing the Japanese version, and you're basically all like, "Really...??"

for completionist sake I want all of it on BD even the awful VS. I will pick this up sometime. I have it on LaserDisc and VHS so I am happy to have it. I can't remember where I first saw it though.

I agree "VS" is awful, but I would like to get the rest as a set as well. Though I am fine with getting the movie by itself.
