Haven't opened my Sentai set yet, and already a new version. This has been happening to me way too often. Unless it's significantly better, not gonna double dip. At least now it'll be easier to recommend considering Gkids actually distributes their stuff to Canada.

Sentai’s release came out in 2014 and is also OOP. So this a weird complaint to have.

I doubt it. “Future Boy Conan” has more weight for a 4K just due to Miyazaki being a bigger name than Anno (at least in terms of the general public). I’ll be curious how the 4K restoration is since some episodes, in the old HD master, had sub-VHS shots inserted.

Considering their Ultimate and Collector’s releases for Neon Genesis Evangelion both sold out before release, I think you may be underselling Anno’s name a bit there. Plus, Anime Limited have a pretty good track record of picking up most of GKIDS anime output (minus Ghibli.) I think there’s a really good chance we’ll see some kind of announcement regarding Nadia in the near future.

Neon Genesis is an extremely popular series that’s been unavailable for legal purchase for almost twenty years. Of course it was going to sell fast.

I've been holding back on buying the Sentai's release all these years because of the price and I just don't like big yellow subtitles. I'm glad I waited it out since Gkids is going to re-release this on BD (assuming that's what they meant by home entertainment).

So this 4K restoration is new and not the same master that was used for the JP and Sentai's release?

I hope they release a 4K UHD BD too, but that's a long stretch.

the funny thing about this is that miyazaki is credited with conceiving up the story.

Glad to see this is coming as I wasn’t aware of the Sentai release until after it went OOP. The fact that it’s being sourced from a new 4K master is icing on the Hideaki Anno cake.

True, but that’s not completely accurate. I mean, ADV put out one last release in 2008 (US/UK). So it hasn’t really been OOP for twenty years.

I think my point still stands. Evangelion, in general, is one of the most popular anime franchises of all-time. You’d be hard pressed to find somebody who hasn’t at least heard of the series. I’d also argue Shin Godzilla and the upcoming Shin Ultraman (he’s writing and producing, not directing) only add to name recognition. That’s not to mention Gunbuster and Kare Kano which are both well known titles many attribute to Anno and not just Gainax. GKIDS are even advertising it as Hideaki Anno’s Nadia.

I can imagine Discotek will get Re:Cutie Honey/his early live action films, especially now that they have a label for live-action movies. I could see Kare Kano being either GKIDS or Discotek if Nozomi lets it lapse.
