The movie has some decent animation- nothing jaw-dropping but it’s a fun distraction if you liked the more light-hearted first half of the tv series. Possibly an unpopular opinion: the tv series generally has better writing than the manga and the tv original ending is more fitting on a thematic level. The manga has some lovely art but a lot of the sequential storytelling is a mess. Battles are often confusing due to the layout.

That CG looks absolutely atrocious to me. I wouldn't watch any anime that looked like this.

After you get through that and if you’re still interested… read the manga. It’s a very different ride compared to the anime due to both being in production at the same time. It’s a pretty similar situation to what happened with the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime (another series I still highly recommend tackling.) Once you get through all of that and you’re still digging Trigun, check out the movie. The thing with Badlands Rumble you must know is it’s not related to the ‘98 series. It has the same director, same animation studio, and even the same composer, however it is not a continuation of that world. It’s more of an animated spin-off from the manga that borrows the aforementioned anime’s aesthetic. The movie rocks! It’s a fun actioneer that captures the spirit of Trigun. It may have not been what fans wanted, but if you go in without expectations, you should have a pretty great time with it. |

So this is going to be closer to the manga then I’m mixed on bash’s design but I’m happy this is going to be closer to the manga because the original anime felt incomplete especially with how it ended vash and knives conflicted wasn’t actually resolved in the end.

I liked it too. However the pacing isn’t great and the new character designs pale in comparison to Nightow’s original work in the manga, but it feels like Trigun. Here’s hoping it can find it’s groove here in the next few episodes, try not to shovel too much plot down our throats, and just do it’s own thing.
It hasn’t been announced yet, but like Badlands Rumble, I kind of doubt it. |
