Knew this one was too good to be true.
Huge BSG fan. Wonderful heavily serialised Sci-fi TV series that helped usher in the Golden Age of Television. Caprica deserved a longer run then 1 season. I initially bought the DVD (a lovely set with plastic DVD housings much like the original Doctor Who Blu-Ray sets). I then bought the French set, many years ago, knowing it was 1080i/50. Still better PQ then an upscaled PAL DVD. Then I imported the German release on the strength of it stating 1080p on the back cover. It was 1080p24 for the Universal opening on disc start-up and then went 1080i/50 form there (output at 1080p). Shame this fell through. Hopefully Universal Australia might pick it up again and if they make a 1080p24 transfer, there will be a plethora of fans that will import the title. It’s a win-win. |

It's available to pre-order here - https://randomspacemedia.com/product...series-blu-ray
I emailed to confirm it was real and they replied saying it is definitely going to be released on the 10th August. I guess maybe JB decided not to stock it? Oh well, ordered mine now! |

While in my local JB store today, I spoke to the staff member who has come to know me about this release and why it's not listing on the site any more and after looking it up, he said that it has "Do Not Order" next to it.

It seems like speculation that it had been cancelled was greatly exaggerated.
It is 'instock online' at Sanity: https://www.sanity.com.au/products/2...omplete-Series Maybe JB changed their mind because they still had DVDs instock but I wouldn't worry too much about internal JB codes like 'deleted'. I bought an old 4K (American Gangster) recently that wasn't on the website anymore and it didn't say 'deleted' next to it on the receipt. I then bought a 6 month old release (Classic Monsters Collection 4K) that was still instock at most stores for click and collect and it had (deleted) next to it on the receipt. |

Random Media’s press release does sound promising: The Battlestar Galactica phenomenon continues with this undeniably compelling look at where the real conflict between humans and the Cylons began...in a vibrant world remarkably like our own: Caprica. Fifty-eight years before Battlestar takes off, two powerful families – the Graystones and the Adamas – find their destinies irrevocably intertwined after a devastating explosion. As both houses struggle with the line where humanity ends and artificial intelligence – the Cylon race – begins, they’ll face off in a battlefield of corporate conspiracy, murder, sexual politics and family backbiting. From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick comes this highly anticipated prequel starring Golden Globe nominee Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales and presented in uninterrupted Dolby 5.1 surround sound, and a brand new 1080p master. The “Dolby 5.1” reference suggests to me that it will be Dolby Digital 5.1… Even if it’s 1080p24 with a lossy, I will take it, I just hope it will be at least 640 Kbps. Would rather have the PQ the way it was filmed, without PAL speed-up and having music and voices half an octave higher and put up with lossy audio. I still think that it will be a PAL HD master. They can push that is is an all new master, but I was burned with the German release. I went ahead and blind bought it, since it stated 1080p on the back cover and I was burned bad (having already purchased the French release). Note: The French and German 1080i/50 releases differed a bit. The PQ quality was very similar, but not identical. The German copy was missing two random scenes of dialogue, around 10 seconds each, which was not a censorship issue. Albeit, they still looked very similar, the German transfer looked less digitally processed than the French. As soon as someone gets a copy of the Aussie release of Caprica, please confirm 1080i/50 or 1080p/24, either on this thread or PM me. |

Initially, the Universal opening comes up stating 1080p24, then it just plays as 1080p (upscales from 1080i to 1080p). What is the runtime of the pilot on the Aussie copy? Will compare it to the runtime in the German/French release. Thanks. |

![]() However, the 835 minute runtime is pretty much spot on to what a 24fps runtime would be when one does the calculations (German set runtime on back cover states 13h24m or 804 minutes. Taking into account the 4% difference in runtime between a 25fps (50i) and 24fps, that run time sounds about right). Quote:

I can't see anywhere on the case for Caprica that lists a total runtime, but the first episode runtime is 49:14. See photo attached. I should also mention that this disc is seemingly mastered specifically for Australia, as it has an Australia "anti piracy film jobs" video after the Universal logo at the start, so they aren't just repackaging another region's disc. If there is anything further I can do to verify please let me know. ![]() ![]() Edit: Bonus back cover for your perusal. ![]() Last edited by SubElement; 08-10-2022 at 12:18 PM. |
