I'm surprised it has taken so long for this to hit Blu-Ray but it looks like Imprint have put together a good release. Now we just need Criterion or Warner Archive to release A Very Private Affair and I think Malle's narrative features will all be on Blu? An HD upgrade for his documentaries would also be welcome.

I ordered it but now I'm expecting the movie popping up on a UHD somewhere else after this gets released.

Got my copy today, flicked through it and the picture quality appears to be simply stunning.

Yep, it looks fantastic. It's about what you would expect from a new 4K scan done by Paramount.

I watched the interview with Brooke Shields and it's great. Looks at Brooke's insight into the making of the film, working with Susan Sarandon, Keith Carradine, Louis Malle and others involved in the production. She also talks about the impact the film had on her personally.

What about the interview with Susan Sarandon? Is that no longer included? Did it not make the final cut?

It sounded like she was really affected by the negative reaction in the U.S. when she got back from Cannes, then finally was able to accept it when she wrote her college thesis.... and has been proud of the movie ever since.

What a fantastic interview with her.. she still looks great! So happy to hear that she was completely comfortable with doing the movie.

I think this film really gets a lot of unfair criticism. There is nothing wrong with it. It's simply a beautiful movie set in a very interesting time and place. It's very well done.

It is not on the blu-ray and it is no longer listed on Imprint's website.

Oh wow, I honestly never knew there was supposed to be one. I never read the fine print. I wonder what happened. The interview must have been done or they wouldn't have initially listed it as a feature. Did Susan Sarandon have second thoughts about it afterwards and had them take it off the disc? bizarre.

Just watched the film and the transfer is top-notch. I suppose being 4K it would want to be but honestly the film has never looked better. Superb job by Paramount and full credit to Imprint for releasing the film.

I've seen the film multiple times since its first cinema release when I was a teenager and it has long been a favourite. Being about the same age as Brooke Shields I sort of grow up with her, Jodie Foster, Matt Dillion, Diane Lane, etc with their movies and have always been a big fan of all of them.

What was funny about this viewing was that I never realised Susan Sarandon's role was much smaller than I recall. But that is the magic of Louis Malle who made such an engaging film full of such vivid characters. One of his many masterworks.

I almost pulled the trigger on it, but it's going for $41. I'll wait for one of the boutique retailers to get it at a lower price.

It's $31.11 at deepdiscount and there's always a way to get at least another 10% off.
