I'm never going to understand the Michael Eisner fans...especially if they've read DisneyWar and are still Michael Eisner fans...

People always look at things with nostalgia so the bad things a CEO has done don't seem so bad after some time. Bob Iger is no different, he played things safe and invested more on IP than actual creativity.

The only thing that would make me happy is to hear about Musker and Clements becoming the CCO of Disney Animation instead of Jennifer Lee, or at least working at the studio again, to hear Disney Animation doing full length hand drawn feature film with quality animation again. Alas, none of these things are going to happen, especially under Iger, who decided after PatF and WtP that hand drawn animation is not economically viable anymore.

Unless the writing on future projects improves substantially I don't really care about Disney.

The skill and awe of raw hand-drawn animation is sorely missed, but the Meander technology showcased in "Paperman" and "Feast" was a happy compromise of hand-drawn line art and CG models. It's yet to be unleashed fully on a complete Disney Animation Feature, but maybe someone will have some spunk and go for it...

And they haven't done anything with it since then.

They have, just not in a full-blown feature.

1) To correct the mistake of Chapek, which he called the biggest error of his time at Disney. So he's got two years now to find a true successor able to pilot a creative-centric company.

2) To "fix" and shore up Disney's streaming future, chiefly Disney+ and Hulu. Iger strongly disagreed with price hikes and said Disney+ should remain the best bargain in streaming, therefore boosting subscriptions. Hulu should have its own identity, and that's become a bit confused the last few years.

So streaming, and a true successor. That's why Bob is back, for two years only allegedly. In the meantime, hopefully he can address Chapek's blunt mistakes, but the priority was getting Curly out the door first.

He should remove the 45 days window and market animated movies more than a month before release. Pixar and Disney animated movies should be treated as events.

I'm curious to see if Iger has some incentive to increase Disney's physical media output, specifically 4K UHD titles and the slew of Fox titles either sitting in the vaults or behind a paywall.

Time will tell...here's hoping he's well aware of the fan base eager and willing to spend their hard earned money on the many classics, blockbusters and cult favorites that remain sitting, collecting dust, not generating any profit during Disney's turbulent time and lackluster, disappointing 4th quarter projections.

Iger is responsible for a lot of the failings too, most notably allowing the company to go all political.
